So i've played pb for about a year, stopped for a year but am going to Smuggler Blue's to get back into it, right now i have a a brass barrel (palmer's pursuit shop) http://www.pbreview.com/products/reviews/226/
But lately i've been reading online that the flatline is a must have for the A5's..... any thoughts?
I would stay away from the Flatline. But if you really want a barrel that acts like a flatline I would get the Apex. You can change the way it spins the ball and it will give you all sorts of wild shots instead of the 1 you get with that flatline. I dont think its as much money either.
Well the barrel i have now is fine, but it seems like everyone's been saying "the only reason to own a tippman is the flatline"
It really comes down to personal preference. The Flatline can be a little paint picky but with the right know-how on how to use it I find it to be a very good barrel. The next time you're on the field see if someone is using a Flatline and ask if you can check it out.
haha the worst part is, packing up for a 1 hour trip to my cottage, bringing my pb stuff. my brand new. brass barrel got delivered that day.. payed for it all myself with $50 (ik,ik not a lot but a lot for me at the time esp. with the wait for the delivery) ANYways.. it gets here... didn't know the plastic was opened on both sides... T.T end of barrel ended up being dented... (part with threads)
had to wait for the hour trip to unpack and try the barrel
STILL WORKS, i dont know how much it affected performance though lol
Ouch. I had to ditch my favorite, original smart parts barrel b/c it got a burr on the tip under the threads. Had it for years and it shot perfect. It's those small dents, dings, and imperfections that weigh on your mind when you miss that shot or something just isn't working right.
A quickie on the flatline - they've recently (not sure how recently) changed the bore finish on the inside of the barrel. It's much rougher now, and shoots much more consistantly, and is much more paint tolerant than they used to be. A number of teammates are still using 'em and still swear by 'em. It's all a matter of preference though; barrels are very personalized items. Enjoy!
The flatline gives you the benifit of range and when the appropriate paint is used dead on accuracy at long ranges.
the downside is that you have to find paint that works well, and often the best one to use in the barrel isnt the most expensive, DONT USE MONSTERBALL ALTHOUGH IT MIGHT WORK AMAZING, Ive heard marbilizer works good,my freind used aftermath when he had his.
For the time being stick with your brass, ive heard nothing but good things about them, if the ding came from the mail call PPS see if they cover it becasue thats their fault for not packaging it right and they will probably have you send it in and theyll ship you one back, dont quote me on that though
if it still screws in you should be ok, and if you want that flat line range an apex is a much better choice, they shoot further than the flatlines (at the same angle and velocity, yes it has been tested, it was in the good first strike range test). the plamers brass shoots just as nicely as every other barrel that cost more than 30 dollars thats not stock apex or flatline.
