For years I played tucking my elbows. Around 2008, I started developing a mild case of the "chicken wing." Not parallel to the ground like all the cool kids, but definitely not tucking my elbow.
Sunday, while playing a tourney, I was caught playing sloppy at a Dorito, and took a hit to the armpit. I later found out that hit was a bounce.
Now, my point. That bounce turned into a welt. That went is in a horrible area. Constantly getting rubbed, and the way I sleep I end up sleeping on it. Had I had my elbows tucked, that hit wouldve been in the shoulder.
So..another reason Im going to start tucking my elbows again...

I ALWAYS tuck my elbows; less surface area = less possibilities of getting shot (although they are only slightly less, the smaller your profile is, less chance enemy has to hit you)
Honestly, under most circumstances, there's nothing wrong with it. The only time it should effect you is if you give the other team a ton of ground on the opposite tape. Which shouldn't be happening anyway, so there are bigger problems to worry about.

Said a little better than before.
no one cares where your arm is - you got shot in the armpit, not your elbow... so playing tight had nothing to do with it. stop playing like a rental player and put your arm however you want it
actually, you can take this story as a reason TO chicken wing... since you got hit and it bounced, you were still alive... had it hit your shoulder, chances are, it would've broken.
