First off, this isn't just for new players. I see all types of ballers out there doing things that a lot of people don't like, and I though I'd make a thread about it.
Hopefully this little guide can help everyone whenever they head out to the field.
To start with, barrel condoms, covers, plugs, socks, sleeves etc are number one. Always have it on your gun, and always carry it with you. Especially in the staging areas. But, make it easy to take off for chrono and when the game starts.
Speaking of chrono, be ready BEFORE you walk into the chrono area. Have any wrenches you'll need ready to go. Read your manual and remember which way to turn your chrono screw. You don't want to be
that guy that everyone had to wait around for and your team will be glad that you're on the field and not stuck in the chrono.
Mask, carry it with you. Find a way to always keep it handy. Find a way to clip it onto a belt loop or carry it on your head.
Another thing, it doesn't matter if you have paint, air or your gun is in two pieces. Don't point it at someone until you're on the field ready to play. Don't dry fire it at someone. Treat it like you'd treat a real gun.
One more thing. Test your gun the day before a big game. I understand there are a lot of newer players that don't know a lot about the gun but try not to hold up lines or let down your team by being out of play for a while. Guns going down happens all the time, but try your hardest not to be in the chrono and not be ready.
One one more thing. Air lines. Walk up, tell them your tank size - 3000/4500 - attach the hose then tug on it before giving the attendant the OK. Fill it, wait for it to bleed out and then take off the hose. It's simple, and it'll keep the lines from being too long. If you don't know how to do something, ask. Don't be afraid to ask someone for help. We're all there to play and have a good time.
Finally, don't cheat. Save wiping for the portajohn. Nobody likes a cheater, and people will know. Just take the walk and think of a better move to make next time. The walk back to the dead box is way better than being confronted. Most serious players will make a confrontation if it becomes a problem.
Now, to the more experienced players. You know that when a kid is in the back bunkers in blue jeans and a sweatshirt, he's new. Cut him some slack. Don't light him up. It wouldn't even hurt to let him make a move or two, because face it, you're playing some first time kid. It's rec-ball. Take it easy on the trigger. You don't have to let him win, but do what you can to let the new guys have fun.
Now I'm not writing this to be rude. I'm writing this to try and help everyone. If you have anything to add post it up.
