i posted this on mcb so most of the reference is from people on there.
well i ordered a case of each after reading a thread on the pump forums about paint being so small now days. Havocrooster is a rep for APX and sold me a case of Beast to start out. Price was less that Marbs, Evil, DXS silver/gold basically a medium priced paint. the box showed up by fedex with no broken balls and packaged very well. the paint is crazy looking. yellow color with redish tiger stripes meeting at the seams. well i rolled each back around checking for broken balls, dents, dimples, or odd shaped balls and they looked good. the bags are slightly vaccum sealed and not the twist tie type. now for the testing
took a hand full for the drop test
havoc said the beast paint is comparible to marbs and they are in roundness and paint fill but they were a little on the hard side for shell break. i dropped from head high (6') and most took 4 drops to break, some i missed on the first bounce so they got a few extra bounces. most took 4 breaks from chest level also, and 8 from waist level.
i took out my phantom J&J barrel kit to test for size since these were supposed to be larger paint.
.693 barrel 2 out of 10 had to be blown through just lightly.
.691 barrel 2 out of 10 had to be blown through harder.
.688 barrel 2 out of 10 could not be blown through at all.
i used the same balls for each barrel.
i was able to use the beast paint at the field but the fyre paint showed up on the day i was gone. the beast flew nice and straight and didnt have any real problems. i did have problems getting my reg to work right on my pump orracle so i will try them again now that it is running at a nice low pressure. balls were breaking in the barrel but i attribute that to the impropper tuning of the orracle. i have shot them since in my back yard and they shoot good. i did have several bounces by the end of the day of playing because the temp was in the mid 80's with a decent amount of humidity. for pump play i look for a little more brittle ball since i need that one shot to count. i shot a guy in the side three times and 7 yrds and not one broke. granted he is well known for his ability to bounce balls because of the several loose shirts.
I got the fyre case because it is supposed to be a more brittle shell and it is a lot better. the fyre came in a plain box packaged the same way but with a dark purple shell and dark tiger stripes. same roundness and no broken balls or dimples. on the drop test the fyre balls broke more consistantly on the first bounce from head high and only a couple had to be dropped again. same with chest high and even from the waist. really like the fact that they are more brittle. the fill is a hot pink/purple color and nice and thick.
.693 J&J 3 out of 8 had to be lightly blown through
.691 4 rolled through, 3 lightly blown, 1 hard blow
.688 3 rolled through, 3 blown through, 1 would not go
i noticed shooting the fyre in my karnivor kaner barrels .682 and .684 that there is a drop in velocity when using the .684 barrel. the fyre paint is a little smaller but not bad. i am still going to test them for staining by shooting a t-shirt on the clothes line and then washing them the next day. not all of us clean our gear the day of and if it washes out after a day then it should be good.
needless to say i am pretty satisfied with the paint and right now they are selling it with free shipping at one case and discounted shipping on a pallet.
havocrooster can get it a little bit cheaper and he worked with me to set up a paypal account since i wasnt totally psyched about sending my credit card info all in one email. if you need pictures of what they look like i can snap some of the shells, fill, box whatever.
