Nifty Fifty seems to be the most popular upgrade lens; I decided to shoot 2.2 because someone said 1.8 is not sharp, but after my test I decided to convert to 2.8.

As Fainer said, try different distances between you and the subject as well to affect DOF and the bokeh. Use this calculator to help you determine DOF to not get too small of a DOF and to know what to expect at different apertures, focal lengths, and distances from the subject: http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html

He didn't even go out of his way to set up a test. Look at the subject. That is the worst composition to do this type of test.
