The Colony

I remember seeing a thread on a the show a few days ago, went back 3 pages and kinda gave up.

Anyway, it's the only show ive been watching regularly. Its been really fascinating to watch the inventions the colonists come up with (especially John c), but this week I was really taken back by how real the experiment has seemed to become to the people. As John V was talking about finding inspiration that there "were still believers" and then at the end of the show, after watching the videos, they were all mentioning how "the city used to be". I dont know how much of that is due to the editing of it or what not, but I can definitely see myself after five weeks of living in that environment becoming absorbed into the alternate reality.

I just found the aspect of an experiment becoming so real to be quite fascinating. It really adds another layer to the show, at least for me.

I actually really like this show. I can't wait to see how their "battlewagon" turns out.

i just dont understand how this show can get into the heads of its recipients. For instance, if I were to be on the show, I wouldn't be able to get the fact out of my head that there are cameras everywhere and none of the situation is real. Not to mention that anyone they come in contact with is a paid actor and influences the "survivors"according to the producers' will. Also, I wouldn't feel threatened when it comes to the other survivors that are lurking outside the walls of the compound as raiders since I know it's all just a show and they can't actually physically harm me.

It's a good concept, but it's extremely difficult to warrant a genuine reaction from the individuals on the show.

agreed. When i saw beggars asking for water i was just like, "What's to argue about, they're actors." If I were on the show it'd just be too hard for me to get into

I don't know about you, but I think they should make a survivor show like this more realistic. I mean, lets say there is a disaster that leaves you in the setting The Colony is; what are the chances you'll be lucky enough to be in a group with a doctor, mechanic, computer engineer, etc. If they want it to be realistic they should put a cashier, lawyer, small business owner, chauffeur and other just ordinary jobs. I'd watch that. Hell, I'd participate in that.

As much of a post-apocalyptic fan as I am, I still find it entirely unbearable to watch reality TV.

It's not scripted, so they say, the participants pretty much get into the fake scenario so much they treat it as a real disaster. The people know they're on a show, it's pretty much all in their heads as to whats going on is 'real'. I believe they said it was filmed in LA, some abandoned industrial sector IIRC.

wow. i honestly thought this was a scripted show from all the clips and previews ive seen of it, and it kind of pissed me off that there would be that kind of show on discovery. but now its just kind of weird that these people are so into it. if its true, these people baffle me with their lack of reasonable thought.

I am with you on that. The other fact that I don't understand is if they are in downtown LA wouldn't they be able to hear traffic and sirens?

Other than that it is a great show!

The concept is much better then the other 98% of reality shows. At least this one is thought provoking.

With that being said, I just can't get into it knowing that the producers have every single little event planned out perfectly so everything falls into place.

Props for the good idea though.

This show was entertaining at first, but then they started to get over the top with giving them solar panels and ****. The car battery thing was a a little excessive, but in a post-apocalyptic world, car batteries would be basically unlimited, given you were near a metropolis. Also the barter guy with the truck... not really realistic, but I digress.

Proof that no matter how smart someone is or a group of people are, put them together and you get mindless bickering and power struggles. Some of the smartest people available are on that show and yet they ***** and yell constantly.
