Transplant an rx8 motor in the 3000gt and you'll get something "different".

These threads are always full of win. Look elsewhere because the two cars you ask about are both headaches. I will agree with suggested Honda civic/integra posts. For 5k you can do a lot with any 4th,5th,6th gen civic or Integra. Wonder why you see these cars at every drag strip, autoX, circuit, and SCCA events.

They are just economy cars right?

If its your only car, definitely get neither, MPGs are terrible in both, and rotaries blow up all the time and if you don't know how to work on them, you're gonna be paying a lot to get them repaired, and VR4s are a pain in the nads to work on

I don't know about you, but around me you can't get a decent VR4 for under $6k, and that's if you're lucky enough to find one for that.

Get a more reliable car if it's going to be you're only one, try for an older GTI or an Si if you're looking for sporty. I had my only car as an 89 mustang for a little over a year, and it was pretty terrible.

Compared to a VR4 for reliability? I'd take a crappy V dub over that lol

If we are talking reliability here, than something like a Corolla is the best bet. Especially if it just sits in a garage.

Well if its going to be sitting in a garage all the time just get a chevy, so the only place you'll ever had to drive is back to the dealership for recalls

Former 3000GT and Dodge Stealth owner chiming in here. If you're looking for reliability, look elsewhere, far far elsewhere. I would love to get another one down the road (when it would be a weekend driver). They aren't fast or reliable, also can be a pain to find parts for.

As for the 'cool-factor' I think they are some of the coolest looking cars around (in their price range), but for a daily driver... ehhhhhhhhh.

Can't go wrong with a VW, Toyota, Honda though. Keep the mileage low as possible and keep up with maintenance. Even if you do the oil changes yourself.

My friend had a modded Rx8 but had to sell it because he had so many problems. I agree with people saying civic or accord, or you could get an older subie but it would probably have a ton of miles

As a 2004 rx8 owner, which has 93k on it and a horrid paintjob, I can truthfully say that I love my car and think I made an awesome purchase. Maintenance on it is not as bad as people make it out to be, it's just different, and you have to stay on a mechanic's back if they go anywhere near your engine. rotary engines are super different, and every blue collar mechanic and his cousin Joe are going to try to put synthetic oil in it. They'll also probably flood the car if they start it, move it 5 feet, and turn it off again.
