First Day w/ VCOM - bolt stick

I recently traded for a VCOM and took it out this weekend for the first time. This is my first modern electro and was using the spool engine, which is also a first for me.

Gun shoots awesome. Sooo smooth and the trigger on these are great. Super easy to shoot fast. I did play with it in millennium capped at 12.5bps so that it would be easier to shoot fast left handed. Plus, was playing all speedball with teams practicing.

The gun shot really well for the first probably 1500 rounds. Then I started getting bolt stick, but it would still shoot. I pulled the engine out to lube and then noticed I had forgotten my Pathogen grease at home. So all I had was Dow 33. When I first got the gun, I lubed the engine with the Pathogen and the bolt with some automag lube (have tri-flow coming this week).

I did not put the lube on as heavy as Bob does in his video. Assuming this is what caused the issue after about 1500 rounds?

I went ahead and lubed with the dow 33 between games and borrowed some hater sauce for the bolt, using a good amount of the dow on the engine. Gun would dry fire fine, but when I went to play with paint...it would shoot just a couple and then the bolt would stick forward. Smack the side of the gun, and it would shoot one and then stick forward.

Everything felt smooth, and then after I dry fired a bunch, it seemed to work and cycle fine the last game.

Is the dow 33 just too thick? Could my LPR be set too low?

Thank you for the specific help on this.

At least with my experience with spoolies u wanna make sure you dont gob on grease. Just a light layer. Just do it often ever few cases. Make sure your pressures are correct. And depending on your board you might wanna turn bolt stick on and up your dwell a bit.

I will check all my settings in the morning and post what my LPR, HPR, Dwell, software (I think it is 5.19) etc. are. I have air, so should be easy. Thanks for the help.

Seems like I should be shooting for a dwell around 9, LPR of 60?

That is very close to what I run my Vcom engines at. That will be a good starting point if you would like to tune the LPR any more.

These are my settings:

165 psi
66 psi
Dwell - 9ms
Bolt Delay 15ms
BIP Delay 00ms

Debouce 2ms
Mech Debounce 3
Trigger Filter 6
Frenzy 5.19

Nothing seems out of the ordinary. Maybe I underlubed originally with the pathogen so it only shot well for 1500 rounds and then I overlubed the ram with dow 33?

Never had any leaking issues, just the bolt sticking after 1500 and then getting stuck after relubing with 33.

Thanks

Thought Bob said 65-70 in his video and isn't that the suggestion in the one-stop thread?

This is how it came to me, so I am open to any suggestions for improved settings within a reasonable range of the suggested settings. Not interested in like dwells of 14 and lpr pressures of 40

Put your dwell at 10, continue using dow33 on the ram, monkey poo, or sl33k. Use dow55 on the other orings such as the ones in the shutoff and the #6 or 7 orings on the button of the engine. Remember to watch bobs videos on the vcom.

I'm not sure I would use Dow 55 on anything on the Vcom or VIS Victories other than the Old SC engine and maybe on the 06 o-ring if you have a stubborn leak.
I believe the recommended LPR range for the Vcom engine is 60 to 70 ... and start the HPR at about 150 and then crono.
A Dwell of 9 should be sufficient, but you can increase that if you have bolt stick.

Thank you all for the help. I tore down the engine fully and cleaned everything yesterday and re-lubed. Brought the LPR down to 62 as big puppa said in another thread.

I see no reason to use Dow 55. At least not on this particular gun. I have had zero leaking issues using Pathogen. I just think it may not of been a thick of enough grease to keep the ram lubed long enough my first day.

I re-lubed all non-dynamic seals with Pathogen, but used Dow 33 on the ram and related seals, making sure just to have a nice coating and no globs.

Gun air'd up and dry fired perfect. No leaks, no bolt stick. Guess we will see how the next day of playing goes.

Used tri-flow on the bolt head O-rings as well. The on choice I did make was to use Pathogen on the bolt shaft instead of Dow 33. If I get bolt stick after a case, I may change that to Dow 33 and up the dwell to 10.

Thank you again.

Shot a little over a case and half through it this weekend. Gun performed flawlessly...although I am getting some breech/bolt wear.

Sounds like this is pretty normal?

Loving the VCOM spool engine. Would lie to try the VIS engine, but the spool shoots sooo darn good, not sure there is any need to spend the $250.

Hey Gretch6364,
Where do you play? I'm down at Blitz quite a bit and if you want to try a VIS engine, I'll give you one to use for a few games or the day.

A little Breach wear is normal, but with the Vcom it is usually because the bolt head is been over tightened or may be loose. Unless it gets excessive, I think you'll be okay.

Thanks Big Papa. I have only played at Blitz out here in CO.

Here are the pics of the wear. I will make sure and not over tighten it. Don't think I did before and it wasn't over tight when I broke it down afterward and wasn't loose either.

That is not what I would call excessive wear; you should be fine.
I should be at Blitz next weekend (I'll be in Vail this weekend) so let me know if you want to give the VIS engine a try. I'll make sure to bring a spare and a pressure tester.

Sweet. Thank you for the offer. I am not 100% if I will be there or not. Might be floating...if not, I will be there. I have a pressure tester as well.
