solenoid dwell and air efficiency

I posted this on the Dangerous Power forum and it only got one response. I hope I get additional information here....

I was just looking at my settings on my DP G4 and noticed that my solenoid dwell was set at the max of 25. I forgot that when I was doing trouble shooting last year, I increased it. I reset the dwell down to 12. I do have the TechT L7 bolt in it, if that matters.

My questions - can anyone give me any idea on what effect having the dwell set that high does to your air efficiency?

And other than efficiency, will I notice any other difference in the way the marker performs or operates? Such as consistency in my FPS?

It should increase your efficiency by a noticble amount. However, I have to ask you why you chose to set it to 12? Is this the factory default? I'm not that familiar with this marker.

Here's a good read for you from ZDS paintball. While it specifically refers to the Ion it's a good general scope for all dwell and pressure settings.
Depending on what your looking for in your marker ie:efficiency, softer shot, high ROF will determine how you want to adjust the dwell&pressure.

If I recall correctly, the factory default (with stock bolt) is 13. I don't have the manual in front of me, so I don't remember what the minimum dwell setting is. I know the max is 25. Reading some of the threads regarding the DP G4 with the TechT L7 bolt, it seemed to suggest that many people run with a dwell of 10. I went with 12 just because I made the adjustment at home without access to a chronograph, and I didn't want to go to low.

Just wanted to post a follow up. I played yesterday. In the past, I used a Ninja 68/4.5K tank. I could shoot a hopper and 2-3 pods and use up about 2K of air.

Yesterday, I was playing with a Ninja peanut (45/4.5K). Even though the tank was much smaller, I could shoot a hopper and 2-3 pods and only use about 1.5K on the (smaller) tank.

I did chop one ball in the breach, shooting nearly a case of paint. I have no idea if the reduced dwell caused that (or even if it has any effect on chopping). I had no other problems. I was shooting PSP (is that the right term for 3 round burst after a few quick semi shots?) and had it set for 12 bps. It never stuttered or had trouble shooting.

Dwell in the end is just a number. On my Rev-I the dwell iss typically set anywhere from 13-15 depending on the season and I still get amazing efficiency.

Every marker is going to be slightly unique in terms of dwell. Your g4 may require 12 to work the best, as where one person needs 16 and another 8. Many factors go into this: What kind of battery used, electrical resistance of the board/transistors/etc., the temperature/humidity/etc...

Best way to tune your dwell is over the chrono. Once you find a nice stable dwell number tune it down until your velocity lowers, and then turn it back up a tiny bit.
