Finally finished testing and setting the zr1. First I rebuilt the hpr with fresh orings and lurker lube.
Couple odd things I found. The body feed neck stopped a couple old dye cg from feeding. I have a motorcycle brake hone that would be perfect for enlarging this, but I'm not excited about permanently modifying a clean body.
The hpr changes output depending on if using a 300psi slp or 500psi output tanks.
With the slp, set up the hpr to 210 turned the lpr out so that the zr1 wouldn't cycle at all then started turning the lpr in over a chrono. Once she started to fire paint I'm showing 315-330 fps with very little change in fps with lpr adjustment. Lpr adjustment only increased kick and made shots slightly more consistent. I ended up at 195psi hpr and again the lpr did almost nothing for the fps. Swapped out the slp tank for the 500psi ninja and all of a sudden I'm shooting 230fps and the hpr was reading 175. Once hpr was adjusted to 195psi it was back to shooting 281-293 with an occasional spike to 303fps.
I left the dwell to 7.5 and have not tried to dwell tune to reduce a variable.

During this test I had no fsdo, but had the abs setting on the board set to 15. Still feel this new bolt system needs about 10 more cases to break in and loosen up. I've been running the lurker lube very light to try to induce a little wear, but its not working very well.

Try slick honey or monkey poo instead of lurker they will let it wear more. Find a crossy lp reg the blue one. It is at 450 and perfect if you can

My slick honey has been mixed with high quality ptfe paintball oil since 2005 making it run just slightly stickier than lurkers. I usually run it on hpr rebuilds and lube hogs during the summer.
Not planning on swapping back to the crossy blues which I ran for years.

Any word out there on the mechanical marker Ken was working on at Zodiac or any new version of the ZR-1?

Back in April, Ken was at the West Point game and talked about it, but it should have been the place to test it. Ken talks a great game, but field testing a prototype or 2 is the only way to work the bugs out of it. When he gets a prototype in the field, then start talking, otherwise, IMHO, don't hold your breath...

Ken has no rights to the ZR1 design. He just took over the remainder of ZR1 stock and owns the Zodiac name. If and when the markers are gone they are gone. Chris owns the rights to the design because it's his design so if you see a new gun it would be from him.

Update time: Ive owned my zr1 for a little over a year now and have had many problems with it most noticeable was the hatred board. No matter what I done it would bounce. So I replaced it with a hard to find virtue board and now its a beautiful shooter.

Ditto. The difference in the way the solenoid performs is plainly noticeable.

Can't you just get a UL Rampage board
and program it with ZR1 settings? I'll
bet the folks at A.P.E. would help out
with that... they're great to work with.

Thats my understanding...the UL board and eyes should be a direct swap-out...just gotta program the ZR-1 settings. Am I wrong on this?

No you are correct. That's what I did for the Virtue board. I really dont want to cut a window out for the screen.

Only took me 20 minutes to cut the window for the Rampage board.
I used a drill, sabre saw, and files. Turned out great, and well worth it.
If someone was hesitant about doing it, I would be glad to do it for them.

It would seem that just about any board you can put in there is better than the Hatred board.

FYI - I bought a stock Dye UL board that fit in but would not work with the eyes. I never got around to messing with it, most likely I just had to swap the wires around but once I found the Virtue I had no need to.

Weird I just wired my eyes in a stock dm board and it had no problems with the eyes.

What are some common quirks with the gun? I've got one on the way and I'd like to know before finding out.

The only thing I find annoying is the somewhat
finicky balance between HPR and LPR, where
finding the "sweet spot" takes quite a bit of
patience and paint. I'm only willing to forgive
that aspect because it's such a great-shooting
marker that feels so nice in the hands!

Virtued mine shoots butter.... now it's for sale. I think you get a little tired of handing out over to people cause they aren't convinced it shoots well. After a few tiger pulls i start wanting it again though
