Brand new carbon tank losing air...

Is it normal for a tank to slowly lose air pressure when not attached to a gun!

My brand new empire 68/4500 will drop from 3000 psi to 1000 psi in about a weeks time when I have it stored in my gear bag.

It keeps happening, but I can't hear or see a leak anywhere.

I assume it's probably the regulator that would be leaking???

My question is, has anybody else experienced this?

Is it normal?

Thanks.

I also have an empire 68/4500 probably a year old now that slowly leaks. In the dead of silence I can hear the tiniest sound from the fill nipple area. I have had the Teflon tape replaced but it still loses air over time.

I've just been living with it

Mine seems to stop leaking around 1000psi.

I have just been living with it as well.

I'm hoping to find out that it's normal, but I have a feeling it's not.

Dip the regulator into a sink full of water up the neck of the bottle and look for bubbles. Most regs are checked for leaks but sometimes slow leaks do occur and is quite 'normal' to be honest depending on where the leak is coming form. Sometimes it just requires the tightening of something.

It's a very slow leak, pretty sure you need to lubricate the o'rings. Who knows how long the tank sat on a shelf, and the lubrication dried out.

Use 100% silicone base grease for the o'rings; never use oil.

As stated above, submerge the tank under water while pressurise and tell us where the bubbles are coming from.

I just sumerged it.

it is leaking out of the backside of the tank gauge.
there is a little pinhole on the back of the gauge that has air coming out of it.

Miss blase, might need to tighten it down a bit and as Guerrilla said throw some silicone on it, should stop that. If it bothers you might need a new fill nipple.

Mac10 might need to tighten it down or there may be something wrong with the gauge if the gauge itself is leaking. not too familiar with empire tanks but seems silly for it to purposely leak. as I said, not too familiar with Empires tanks tho so may just need to call them and be like "yo whats wrong with my ****!"

It's a bad gauge if it's leaking out the back. They're sometimes not covered under a warranty or worth the hassle of it so just getting a new one is your best bet. If you want to see if it's covered under warranty you would have to contact Paintball Solutions, info in the ultimate sticky, and go through them as they handle all KEE/Empire warranty services.

Try cleaning in the ref like the shanks and so, make sure the inside of the bonnet is clean and try replacing any o-rings if possible.
Good luck

Cleaning the reg has nothing to do with a bad gauge. That hole is there so built up pressure doesn't blow the plastic face off.

Yeah, if Tabris assessment is roughly the same, Id call Empire or whomever you got it from and talk about getting a replacement if its brand new. cause it shouldn't be doing that.

I picked up a ninja gauge before I played this weekend.

I filled it again when I was done, and so far it has held its pressure.

It was only $10 so I didn't see any reason to waste my time with getting it warrantied.

That's good. Bad gauges happen. Sometimes it's not a warrantied part either just because they can be faulty so you're better off just replacing it.
