Demand for Custom Inserts and Barrels

Just though I'd check and see if there would be any interest in new production stainless Freak style inserts and one piece barrels bored for the inserts. I've been thinking of making myself some prototypes but I can't justify the cost of some of the tooling just to make 1 or 2 barrels. All profiling work would be done via CNC lathe so really any profile or porting configuration you want is feasible. Inserts will be 304 Stainless Steel, Barrels will be 6061 Aluminum, and I do have the capability to do Carbon Fiber if I can get enough interest to make the minimum order for custom material.

I do not do anodizing in house but I do have a few shops I work with, but cost effectiveness will depend on volume. Stainless inserts would most likely just have the bore size engraved and then electro-polished to a mirror finish. Cerakote, Titanium Nitride, or Titanium Aluminum nitride finishes are available, but it wouldn't be cheap.

I'd be interested to see how it turns out how long are the barrels going to be, and how much porting?

I was thinking 14" just because its what I like but I don't see any reason I couldn't do any size you want up to about 16" possibly longer. As for porting, I think my first prototype for myself will have the All-American style spiral porting just because I've always liked the look, but I suppose the computer is limited only by your imagination.

I hope to have time this week to get a few inserts made, and I'll go from there on the barrels. What bore sizes should I start with? I've been away from the sport for a few years now but I remember usually using a .689

If the bore sizes ran true, unlike the Smart Parts inserts....

I know we can hold the tolerances when reaming, Once my hones arrive we'll see how much, if at all, we need to compensate. I see the full freak set includes .679, .682, .684, .687, .689, .691, .693, .695. Are these same sizes what you would like to see? Back when I played often I had a full set, but I only remember using a couple of sizes.

I would say that .689 is really the highest you have to go. Anything above that really isn't optimal for the size of today's paint. That's only my opinion though. Including a .676 insert would be ideal for pump players too.

I would be interested in this if the inserts are longer than the Freak.

Will the barrel have orings to hold the inserts or stick out the end slightly a la Nerve?

Any drawings or renders of what the barrel is going to look like?
