I hope they can put together something good. Would be interesting to see more European teams coming over here and playing 'their' format. Attempting to get some of them over here is smart.

Please do a better job than the NPPL has done since... 2008? Please don't create another joke of a national league like the NPPL was. I hope this works out, but a name and format change won't save them if they keep running subpar events.
The NPPL BECAME a joke of a league. The last couple years they have been doing everything they could to keep it afloat. At one point in time the NPPL was the best series and events like Hunington Beach and Mardi Gras Open were the biggest and best events in all of paintball.

Unfortunately those days are long gone. The seven (and five) man format is a thing of the past and the NPPL just couldnt keep up with the changing times.

I don't believe all of those are correct. I don't know where you two get your information from, but it isn't trustworthy. I would avoid believing them in the future and certainly wouldn't post on behalf of them.

I mostly lol'd at this remark due to the combination of your statement with your avatar.

'Murica.

Sad to see 7man fading away though. I didn't really play it much other than when our field had teams out for practice but I still enjoy different formats of paintball.

A few questions anwsered

I know everyone has lots of questions regarding the APL. We wanted to get this initial press release out and plan to release more info every week. Here are some initial answers to the questions we have heard. If you have more, please feel free to email us directly or we will try and check back here on pbnation.

I think it was clear that we (Paintball Promotions) never owned the NPPL name or trademark. We had a license to use the name last season. I think all went well last year and we were good custodians of the league and name. We did not renew that licensing agreement. I am unsure what the owners of the NPPL name plan to do with it now.

With the amount of changes necessary to bring the league more in line with what our customers were wanting we felt it best to start with a new name and new direction. It's hard to see 7-man go away, but it seemed necessary at this stage. Most events across the nation are some version of 5-man. Rather than trying to bring the water to the horse we thought it makes more sense to bring the horse to the water. Basically rather than try and change peoples mindset on what type of paintball to play it made more sense to provide an event and series that fits what people want.

We have spoken to many of the Pro teams and many have indicated they are interested in playing in the APL. We will be announcing confirmed Pro teams in smaller groups over the next few months.

Schedule will be out once all the other leagues release their schedule. We are the new kid in town and will be respectful to make sure dates and locations aren't on top of other dates.

I always snicker at the "raking" in cash posts, if any of you have ran a local series, let alone a regional/national series, you'd realize the costs associated with running those events.

Please save me with the "players for players" bull**** as well. Volunteerism, great prizes and cost based pricing does not make a viable business plan. I'd rather the individuals using this line would say what they really mean, " the psp doesn't allow me to flex my self-perceived value and over- inflated contribution to the sport, so I utilize the three practices above to wade into the competitive market knowing full well the whole thing is an attempt to make money under the guise of "players for players".

Holy &#}% this sport is like Groundhog Day and we all have Alzheimer's.

I am all for this. Especially if they are in different cities and in between the PSP events. More structured series like these are needed. Forces the prize packages to be more appealing to draw attention to their events. Even if it isn't run as smooth as the PSP, it will give divisional teams a chance to play a national series.

Paintball News Rules
  1. No Upping threads. If you have something to say, please do, but don't post in the thread just to take it to the top of the forum.
  2. Do not post "1st post", "1st", "First post" or anything similar (or with any other number) at any point in a thread, even if you post a comment too. It is really annoying and it will result in a ban.
  3. If you don't like something, say why instead of just calling it ugly, lame, gay or any other name. If it is old, simply post a link or report the post with a link to the older News thread.
  4. Please don't post links for places to buy items. That encourages stores, sponsored players and other people to do it and spam the site.
If you have questions, please post them in the Talk to Mods/Admins forum.
