nppl has done this as well. i can remember them having celebrity exhibition games in 2005/6/maybe 7? linkin park played stoned assassins *cypress hill* in an exhibition game i believe at huntington beach. it did nothing for the sport as a whole because they didnt market it correctly. regardless i doubt it would have done much anyway. the only way to get people in to a sport they know nothing about and their favorite celebs are doing, is if their favorite celebs are doing it OFTEN. ok cool linkin park came and played paintball once or twice...maybe a couple people went and played because of it. but they seriously limited the influx of people because it only happened once or twice.
to get back to the topic at hand, ive got enough info myself to believe that this will be the last year you see any of the top teams playing in the nppl. id make a suggestion that teams like dynasty and xfactor, will no longer play in the league after this year. which will leave teams like shawn walkers personal raiders, avalanche *maybe, their mainly psp players*, and the rest of the motley crew to duke it out in some pseudo open/pro division. and this is if there is even a league at all after this year.
i could see the psp opening up the challengers division, or laxing the rules slightly *if necessary* on D1 to allow more of the "pro" teams from nppl to make the switch over to the psp.
the big place nppl is missing is in the divisional ranks anyway. how do they expect to run a league, let alone an event when their entire divisional ranks make sunday just by the graces of paying and showing up to the event. there is no competition in the league, which will drive away teams looking to test their skills against other players from throughout our country. other teams take that as a blessing and say "hey, easy payday for us right guys!?" but then they win the event, and the prizes dont get paid out *as documented by the vendetta nonsense* so that drives them away too. a vicious cycle it is indeed... oh well it was bound to happen eventually, it just took a lot longer then i thought it would....about 2 years in fact
