There are a lot of quality options out there...from $150 Spyders to the $1400 Dye DAM...

Options such as markers that are First Strike compatible, some are not.

Some can swtich quickly between mag fed and hopper fed, others require tools and some disasembly.

Some resemble real firearms, others do not.

Some have the air tanks hidden as a stock, others don't.

What are some of the features you may want? What is your budget? What are your priorities in a marker? Are there any expectations you have in mind?

I've looked into both and if I had the cash on hand I'd get the rap4 468 set up for scarab arms mags over a milsig mk3 marker. At the moment the SA mags are considered the best continuous feed mag there is and I've heard so much good about the 468's lok bolt and efficiency I'm sold on it.

I don't have either, but I've seen and talked 486 owners and I'll tell you, it's a very nice gun. Super simple teardown (like a real AR-15) and is supposed to shoot real nice. Much better than their older T-68s.

Also look at a companies customer service. To me that's worth more if the the CS is on point.

I don't know, I'm seeing other companies' pricing for their high end guns and Dye is either about the same or cheaper than some. There is nothing to even really compare the DAM to in order to say the value for it's price point isn't there.

As for the CS statement, I agree with that whole hardedly.

Take the price of a high end speedball gun, add the price of magfed conversion kit and a magazine, also a stock and some frontal shrouds. Add a little for r&d and honestly you've got a price that's not half bad for what it is.

The only real issue with other dye guns right now is that they're starting to fall behind eclipse especially when compared to something like the lv1. Dye guns have no display, macroline, higher maintenance, same price.

I agree with you a bit there Vijil. The DM line should have an internal airline at the very least. Cleans up the gun remarkably and now that the DAM has it...

But displays I really have not much of a need for. Sure you may have to have your manual handy for settings on the Dye markers but I always carry mine with me anyway and won't be chaning them on the field other than semi/3-round/full auto which, on the DAM is pretty easy anyway.

Maintaining the DAM is pretty easy but, from what I understand, these bolts need fairly regular maintenance...which I've done with my other markers anyway even though they were tanks and didn't require it.

Something like the DAM doesn't really need a display, but given the price of the other Dye markers it makes sense to expect them to have what are now standard features. Displays aren't necessary on any marker, they're a "nice to have". When somebody spends $1200 on a marker, they expect those nice to have features.

Anyways that's a speedball discussion

I sometimes think it would be nice to have a display on a milsim marker, but under the grip so it's invisible until you want it. Makes tuning, mode setup etc. muchos easier. Again though it's not really needed. Just means less faffing about. Kinda like tool less hoppers and so on. The less tool and manuals you need, the better.

Personally, I think its both cheaper, and more efficient to buy a gun such as a Tippmann A5 or a BT-4, then buy the Tacamo Conversion kit for the marker.

Cost or time?

Cost to me is $20 and you are in the same "zone" as me. You might be a little more or a little less. Figure $25 shipping to be safe.
