AGD Longbow, Mil Sim or not?


My buddies and I have been having an argument for a while, whether or not the AGD longbow is considered a Mil Sim marker. (pic below)

On one hand it is magazine fed and has Weaver-picatinny rails that allow the attachment of sights, scopes, whatever. And It does feel more Mil sim than...say...An Ego or proto

But on the other hand it is not truly made to mimic military weapons. And was not made specifically in their style.

I guess the bottom line is, if you were running a Mil Sim game, would you allow the AGD Longbow?

Personally I say Yes it is Milsim enough.

What Defines Milsim? I have been asking this same question.

I run a tac one with a stick feed, or a pump with a stick feed...

My argument is the look of the marker is not the ONLY criteria to make up milsim. The game, the play style, the limited paint, the objectives, the scenario...all play far more important rolls in milsim than just the look of the gun...

So if your friends are worried about the Tac One, what are they using? Pure Mag Fed markers only? Or do they use a tac cap or other loader?

Use the Tac one.

I'd say so, yeah.
It was designed to be a "sniper" platform. I recall reading something about it back in 2004 and how if you really wanted to be the sniper on the team, get the Longbow. It's magfed, has a stock, and pretty much simulates a good DMR. Even though there isn't really a sniper platform in paintball...

Well, there *wasn't * a sniper platform til fs came along. Now there is, or close enough.

Definitely counts as milsim in my book - just not hardcore milsim.

I always considered the longbow to be almost a proof of concept for the feasibility of mag fed play. The gun at heart of any longbow system isn't inherently a mag fed gun, but it did get fed by a magazine of sorts. People did buy them, and it told the industry "yes, people would be interested in magazine fed guns that weren't pistols".

I'd say id does as well, military simulation doesn't mean the gun has to look like an m4 or scar but have the same spirit as one, especially in the limited ammo category

I'd say in a strict sense no... But if I were running a milsim game, I'd allow the Longbow as it definitely fits the "spirit" of a "milsim" gun.

As it was wisely pointed out in another thread, if you get too picky about allowing only certain guns to milsim events, you may not have a decent number of people show up.
Quit now . . . it's embarrassing to get eliminated by a pumpgun!

In 2005 this was true (I really wanted a TAC-1 Longbow back then, they were expensive when first released though...)

Nowadays, the concept of a paintball "sniper" is definitely viable.

Carmatech SAR12, First Strike rounds, a crossbow scope or adjustable scope riser, and a rangefinder. And enough practice to dial it all in and get used to it.
Don't count me out until you see the box being lowered into the hole...
