Powder coating

As part of my full time business I do powder coating. Normally we do dirtbike/motorcycle parts, but my brother had me do a 98 the other day. Some examples of the work we do:

If you want to keep your threads clean, stick some bolts in the holes. We will do our best to cover areas of your parts that need specific clearances and tolerances and we have plugs and caps for certain holes and studs, but correct bolts always work best. Marker must be disassembled and cleaned prior to being coated.

Feel free to post any general questions, and PM me for actual quote on something specific.

I can do any color, if its not a color I have in stock will only take a couple days to get it in.

Only designs would be either a fade like on the Tippman above or something like this, this was cast into the metal, I only did two colors on it:

Depends on what you would like done, basic marker $25 for the body, small parts depend on how many and their size.

25 per marker is a steal. This is not an easy job, people should jump on this

Nice stuff! Your fades are pretty sweet. I used to powder coat myself but dont anymore. I have an UL frame for a PM5 that is powder coated white. Can you strip the white powdercoated finish off?

Feel free to PM me.

Various places, most of it either comes from PPG or NIC. Small special order stuff I'll usually go with "powder buy the pound"

Do you guys also sand blast the gear before coating it or does that need to be done before-hand? My understanding is that you need a good surface to get the powder to hold to the metal correctly. Annoed parts should be fine, but you can't do this to rubber or plastics right? It's also better to do this on steel parts rather then aluminum?

Everything gets sandblasted before coating to properly etch the surface. Has to be sand(or similar media), bead blasting will only dimple the surface and not properly etch. No rubber or plastic, part has to be able to handle 400 degrees for about 10min.
Steel parts or machined alumn. no real difference, however cast alumn. can do what's called out gassing. That is where bubbles left over from the casting process will "float" to the top and cause bubbles or imperfections in the paint. Easy way to avoid that is to pre-heat the cast part at approx. 430 degrees for a half hr or so, this will make sure that any bubbles have risen to the top so they won't do it when its being coated.

Nowhere even close to the same quality. the stuff from SW comes in a blue jelly type stuff, and it literally blisters your skin in seconds if it get it on you.

Could you make a aluminum barrel that's black and make it look chrome?
The aluminum can be polished to a shine but I don't have the tools or polish to do it.

I'm in Pittsburgh and very interested in this for a project I'm working on. I'll PM you to see if hat can get a faster reply.

Thanks,
Christian
