Doubt about dwell

Can anyone explain why the older dms were tuned with the dwell of 16-18 and now 20-22?

stock dwell on all dye guns has been 18ms.
by upping the dwell to 20-22ms, you can lower the lpr. thus making it a softer shot, and easier on paint.

So nowadays paintballers are giving less importance to efficiency, and more to a softer shot, right?

on a spoolie, lowering the dwell really doesnt do much for efficiency.
anyone who thinks they will magically get a few more pods out of a dye gun by lowering the dwell is fooling themselves.
i would take the softer shot, and as long as i can shoot what i carry out to the field, im fine.

Yes, paintball has changed since 2006.... at most people carry 4-6 pods, any any poorly tuned dm will shoot that.. so why not go with a soft crips shot? rather then try and get 13 pods

I use a scuba at 3000psi max to fill my paintball tank.

A few years ago (2006) My settings were dwell 16-18, lpr 2,5 turns, hpr where tunned in chrono +/- 280fps with consistency +/5 fps. Tophat mod instaled.

I start playing again 3 months ago and the tendency is dwell 21. thats why i made this question.

that dwell is just a # that is used.
i use 20 usually. grss uses 21. some others will use 22.
i wouldnt go higher than 22. i dont even know why i use 20. i dont even mess with my lpr. i just run the higher dwell so its easier on paint.
i dont think the stock lpr settings are that bad... you can go lower definitely.

I will try the dwell a litle higher 20-21 and tune my dm6 again.
