Making your own spool grease

I don't know if this is the right forum but I figured someone could use this info.

I had trouble with my Clone GT, the original lube was too thick and sticky causing bolt stick, I had to shoot 6-12 balls to get up to full speed in 45 degree temps.

I ordered some new lube but in the mean time I had to find a way to use my GT so I took some Dow55 and gold cup oil. I cut the dow 55 with the Gold cup until is was the consistancy of sour cream.

I've been using it for three weeks now and it works great, absolutly zero bolt stick and all of my orings appear to still be in good condition.

thinning a grease with oil is nothing new or ground breaking

No kidding If it were "new or ground breaking" I would have kept it quiet and charged everyone $15.00 for a small tube of it

However there are many that are waiting on that "special" lube and I figured I would give a basic recipe incase someone needed to get their gun back up and going.

That is what I love about paintball....you try to help some fellow players and someone HAS to bust your balls about it

wait.. so you took a lube that is designed to swell o-rings, and tossed a lil oil on it to make it thinner?

Did you realize that your concoction is just as likely to cause bolt stick as before?

Why didn't you try upping your dwell instead, or hell mixing gun oil with the macdev lube?

Yep, very aware of all of the attibutes of Dow 55, thanks for checking in on me.

I have no idea what MacDev uses, just know what works.

Why raise my dwell when it works with a lower dwell with the lube I made

Apparenetly you guys are into not helping others and bashing people that help others.....weird

they are just saying that dow 55 swells orings and may result in bolt stick in the future. I mix DOW 33 and triflow to use on all my spool guns.

Yes, that is why I waited three weeks with the lube in place before posting. This is just a stop gap measure one can use if needed, but so far it is working good for me and it is what I had in my tool box. I'm sure there are better things out there but if someone is in a bind it is nice to know what works with what you might have on hand.

Next time, name the thread "mixing" your own lube instead of making.

So when you "mix" eggs and flour you say you mixed your own cake?

I've always loved the mixture of some Dow33 and planet eclipse gun oil, that shoots buttery smooth on spoolies! Good job man. Hope your mixture helps some peeps!

And for all the haters, can you please GTFO! He's just trying to help, so make yourself useful and go hate on gay marriage or something.

Dude, switch to Dow 33. Dow 55 is meant for stationary orings, like those in regulators. Like people said before me, 55 swells the orings, and that's what's causing your bolt stick. Go back to 33, and replace those orings. I betcha your problems will disappear.

-Dow33 is bearing grease, Dow55 is oring grease.
-all regulators have at least one dynamic oring
-Bob Long guns use Dow55 exclusively
