In that price range you're not going to see much of a difference, it at all, from the Mini you already have. Save your money for a marker that is MUCH better than the Mini, otherwise you'll be disappointed in the non-existent return on investment of upgrading from the Mini to a marker in the $400 range.

Just about anything form PE is nice, including the Etek. You could also get an older Ego in your price range.

A buddy of mine has an Etek 3 and I love it. It definitely shoots different than the Mini and will probably be louder than anything else out there, but they are nice markers. Just me prepared to really feel it when you shoot, compared to the Mini

Honestly, i would look through the b/s/t for an older used ego, dm, or Bob Long. I had an etha; didn't love it. I've shot an etek 2 and 3 and like those better. Your best bet is probably an older ego or an etek.

Lol, eyelashes
I'd go with the Etek. The Etha is about the only thing from PE that I wasn't a huge fan of

I'm surprised no one mentioned an axe. You'll notice the difference in a heart beat. I loved my mini but when I bought my axe I considered myself foolish for even thinking the mini was close to it. Plus, you can find a used axe for around $300 on BST.

That's a good point. The axe shoots VERY smooth for the price, has a great trigger, and won't break the bank. Give it a look.

Another vote for the AXE. Great marker for the price. Took me awhile to get used to the trigger vs my mini special edition. I really like my Axe. I like my empire products for some reason. Each there own

Read reviews, do research and shoot the marker you are interested in and decide for yourself. It will be your money(or your parents) and will be your marker.

Going from a Mini to an Etek isn't much of a step up (actually I'd say it's a step down because I hate all things Ego with a passion).
You'd be better off getting a used high end then buying another mid end.

I do think the Etek is a step up from the mini for the ease of maintenance and reliability if nothing else. I have not ever seen anyone have troubles out of Eteks but have seen many Minis go down. (Not all minis are bad, either get a good one or bad one from what I've seen) As far as buying a used high end gun, if you are not going to buy an Ego 9 or newer then I would buy a new Etek LT. I've used 07 Egos and SL8R Egos and could not tell a difference performance wise in my Etek 3. The Eteks are based off the 07-08 Ego anyway and you get the ease of knowing your gun is brand new. I recently purchased a Dynasty Ego 11 and can not tell a huge ($500) difference in performance between it and my Etek. Most of the differences in Eteks and Egos are luxury items anyway like the lcd board, pops ASA, aluminum frame etc. All egos are going to be loud compared to most guns (welcome to the world of stack tube markers PE markers). If you buy an Etek you will be very pleased as long as you like a stack tube design marker. The only reason I upgraded is because I got the Ego 11 in perfect condition with Rotor, 45/4500 tank and pod pack for $700. I still use my Etek from time to time.
