5v5 Tournament Rules?
Hey Guys,
So I have been playing paintball and speedball for about 6 months now and I am going with my friend's team as a sub for a tournament next weekend. I've played in lots of pickup games and such and while I am a decent speedballer, I actually know very little of tournament rules. Would someone mind just posting the basic rules such as time limits, penalties, etc. so I can get a feel for them before the tourney? Thanks. YM

Don't wipe. listen to any and all instructions by the refs even the bad ones. Don't touch buttons on your marker during the game without calling over a reff (even to turn it on). Don't over shoot somebody too much. And don't be a dick.

Find the tournament's web page. More likely than not they will have rules posted on there.

As stated above the rules varie by leagues. But if you want some pretty generic rules just look up the PSP rulebook.. But just remember the tournament your playing might differ.

If you don't know if your hit ask for a paint check before you shoot. If you shoot while you are hit they will call a major penalty pulling you and one or two teamates out of the gun. Also keep your gun on the dead box net until they start. If you leave early they will pull you and your team mate out right away, putting you in a very difficult situation.

Out of my 14yrs of paintball I have never seen this, with that said you WILL get pulled if you leave earlier AND shoot but not just leaving early. If you leave early and don't shoot you can go tag the starting net and be good....and I have also never seen them pull more than just the person who did it. If I am wrong please correct me so I will know in the future(if I ever play tourneys again).
OP, like everyone else said go to your tourneys website and read the rules, or the PSP as most leagues use some/most of the psp rules

I believe you have 2.5 seconds to tag up if you leave early. But if you leave early and shoot, they will pull a penalty, so that would get you and a teammate pulled. Never got a penalty for leaving early. When the ref says 10 seconds, one of our teammates will walk off the startbox, check to see how the guys on the other side are lined up, and then tag up before 10 seconds is over

PSP refs will pull you if you point your gun down field before the buzzer. Firing is not necessary. You will not get a penalty for starting early unless you shoot a player or have a blatant early start and attempt to play on.
This is the PSP rulebook. It is the national standard for 5-man and is also commonly adapted for 3-man as well as 7-man. As always, get the rules directly from the tournament host, but you can use this to get an idea of how things work. If it's a 5-man tournament you want the "race-to-2" rules.
At the most basic level, any attempt to use a gun with excessive rate of fire or velocity, play on, or wipe hits will result in several of your friends walking off the field with you. Play honest, follow the instructions of the referees, and have fun.
