I have no idea about the specifics of tuning, but I'm pretty certain they make adjustments to the tune, drive it around, look at the data, then readjust as needed.
At least that's what it seemed like they did with my car when I had it road tuned.

Yuik: its just like a dyno. The dyno is calibrated to the displacement similar to that of a road. You tune at idle, cruising, WOT, etc... well when you road tune its just like being in a dyno but you're on the road and you do the same thing. I would assume road tune is more accurate of done on a flat level and straight surface.

So I'm at Akuma and they got some other cars hitting the dyno before me so we went to lunch. My boss drove me here. We walk out of the shop and he looks at a car and asks "is that twin turbo"? Thinking he is talking about the corvette out front I say I didn't know if the vette was TT.
He then points at the GC with two hellas and says "no is this Subaru twin turbo". I laught hysterically and he says "they're horns arnt they???"
I was DYIIIIIING!!! Dyno vids will be up later. Hope my clutch doesn't explode ^_____^

Well, my exhaust will be here tonight... Got a FMS Catback (Fast-Motorsports). Videos show it sounds good, not too loud. But without a silencer it's a demon. Already have a DP sitting around so when I can install I'll be Stage 2 ready.

Think of the dyno as a catalyst for an actual road. If dynos didn't exist they pull the same data from the road. I couldn't tell you how the data is figured all I know is a dyno uses the same displacement as a road (or close to it). The dyno reads realtime speed and engine performance while another laptop is used to make adjustments to the tune. Them its reflashed and dyno'd again till you get the best quality tune.
At least that's how I view it.
In other news:
Car made 380whp... not too impressed. The tuner stepped out and asked where I get my gas and I said on base where its not terribly expensive. He said my car is pulling from timing because I have poor quality gas. I'm going to start filling up where I know they have better gas and flush out the BS that's in the tank. He said when I go back I can expect another 30hp from better quality gas and some more adjustments. But god damn the STI ****ing FLIES!!!!!! I did a pull in second and into third and I was blown away. Loud as **** too
