Ninja dura coating peeling

Has this happened to anybody else? Is this just a defect first run type deal?

Contact Ninja about this. They may replace the tank, or have an explanation about what is going on. Either way, it may have something to do with the grip tape that you have on the back end of the tank.

Totally untrue. That's the clear coating showing.

I'm leaning towards the possibility of the grip tape being an issue as well. Did you remove and reapply the tape? Perhaps it's the adhesive adversely reacting with the dura coat.

I wonder if its one of the ones from the first batch. If it has a hydro of 10/12 or 11/12, there's a possibility that you received a bottle with a really light coating. We had a few issues about this come up and when we contacted the manufacturer, they said they did rush the first batch and some of the bottles have a lighter coating than what should be on their. You can get it sent in for free through the warranty process if you want. It will come back looking brand new.

Sounds good Rob. It's fine with me as long as there are no issues later down the road. the hydro is 11/12

If you read Ninja's description, the coating is a cosmetic, not functional coating. It's not meant to take a beating and not meant to be used without a cover if you're expecting the look to last. Unfortunately, it's named "dura"

The name Dura was created because this same coating is used on high impact sports equipment such as softball or baseball bats. It is a very durable coating but just like baseball bats, softball bats, or paintball cylinders, coatings can scratch or get damaged if left unprotected.

Unlike other companies, we have a great warranty program in place in case any issues do arise. I can't say the same for the "other guys"

Rob, not doubting the warranty and customer service. I hear great things about you guys and your efforts on this sub definitely show how dedicated you are to your customers.
I am, however, a little confused as to why a "Dura" coating that is weaker than your regular finish was green-lit. Or maybe why the name "Dura" was chosen. As a customer, I'd expect the coating to be at least as "durable" as your regular tanks, and from reviews, that definitely does not seem to be the case.

It was a manufacturers defect. They admitted to it, Ninja is addressing the issue on behalf of their manufacturer.

I've been having the same issue. I just sent the tank back yesterday. Though, from my perspective, the reason my tank was peeling wasnt necessarily because of rough use or play, the biggest peeling it had was from around the part of the tank that faces me chin/face, as if the rubbing against my VForce Grill was causing the peeling... I could "rub off" the coating with just my finger tips. And I have no evidence to back the following statement, but it looked or felt like paint residue from paintballs caused the Dura coat to become soft. Mind you the paint at my local field is GI (Ecofill)

All in all.... I'll still use a Ninja tank over any other brand

Do these have the dura coating applied directly over a normal clear coating? Underneath the dura coating, is it a normal tank?

Thanks!

Yes they are. It's just a coating over the cylinder and clear coat.

I have a blue duratank with 11/12 hydro.. bought it brand new from Premium Paintball Products or Combat Pursuit to some people. Anyways. after a good day of rainball my dura coating has bubbled like goose bumps but only on the exposed part that isnt covered by my exalt rubber tank cover. so now theres just this hideous cracked and bubbled coating section. Not sure how I feel about this. I can email pics if needed.
