DM9 vs Etek3 AM

Looking to buy a new gun, between looks and performance ratings ive narrowed it down between a Dye Dm9 and an Etek 3am. Based on shooting, performance, reliability, etc. Which is the better gun?

i havnt personally shot either of these specific guns, but i have shot a DM11 and an EGO10, the PE guns are generally more reliable and poppit generally gets better efficiency, the DM's are a much smoother shot and quieter, both perform very well, i suggest getting ahold of one of each and shooting them to see which you prefer

Id probably be buying it on here so i wouldnt really have the option of shooting them first but the DM price is about $350 and the Etek is only about $300 and the Etek is newer. Im looking for something thats gunna shoot good and not give me problems so often.

Dm9. Etek's are solid guns but you won't get wow'd by the shooting at all. Dye manuals also have detailed step by step instructions for troubleshooting them so fixing it is easy if something did happen.

You can get a used EGO 8 for about $300.00 nowadays. EGO 8 in my opinion is better than the ETEK 3.
I picked up one last month with zick and cure 2 for $280 shipped. I live in central NJ too. If you buy paint and air you can shoot my ego anytime.

If you decide on an Etek, look towards the LT, if you find a better price. I have an AM, but they're typically more expensive, and everyone says it isn't worth it since the LT never breaks (unless you want to put an emortal board in it, i guess).

is the Ego 9 worth the extra cash over an Ego 8?

Personal preference. Personally, the ego 9 is my least favorite year ego (besides the 05 and 06 of course).

The problem here is that you are comparing two different beasts. It will all depend on if you prefer spoolies or poppits. In my opinion the DM9 will serve you better. And if you are thinking of getting an ego9, I would reccommend just saving the extra $250 and getting the Ego11.

I specifically bought an EGO 8 because the research I did assured me that this is the model that most people claim is their favorite. Also, I am comfortable taking my markers apart and working on them. Spending only $280 left me with enough money to buy a pump kit for my e-bladed cocker.

First thing I did when I received it was shoot it to make sure it worked. Then I tore it completely down and cleaned every single part. Re-lubed what needed to be lubed and tested to make sure it still shot. I shot a pod through it yesterday after work for fun and it is quickly becoming a favorite to be pulled out of my gear bag. It might even overtake the Drone this season as my main marker of choice.

Would go with the dm9 hands down... Don't get the etek either way and go with a 07 or 08 ego if you choose to go the poppit route.

Poppets are usually 2 tubes on top of eachother, one tube for the rammer an valve, the top tube for the bolt (like an ego or intimidator) the spool valve is basically a bolt inside of a can (the can is used to keep the bolt lined up) like a DM, luxe, geo, etc.

Is one better than the other or is it all based off of preference?

They operate totally different.

Spend some time looking at these: http://www.zdspb.com/tech/misc/animations.html

What people generally refer to as poppets are classified as "hammer/valve markers" on the site. These include timmys, egos, fx, cyborgs, etc.

When you look at the spools take note of "unbalance/ blowforward" style markers. These are guns like the geo, drone, dp g series, etc.

Balanced spools are typically high end spools. Examples include the clone, luxes/ shockers, dms, etc.

Now inline poppets really fall into 2 subcategories that the site doesn't explain real well. The BL marq/ vic line is kind of like a traditional hammer/ valve type where a hammer "pops" open a valve. In the marq line the hammer poppet components are co-axially mounted (inline). The other inline poppet is the pressure-controlled poppet. I'm not real sure I like this terminology, but essentially the pressure behind the poppet drops while backpressure from the bolt pushes it open.

There are other hybrids such as the etha that has spool and poppet characteristics (but IMO it sucks). It's like a blowforward spool that has a moving bolt pin/ poppet.

It's true, ego 08 is my favorite ego Planet Eclipse made, with the ego 11 right behind it at 2nd. It's so durable, and never had one problem with it until the board went out after 5 years. I parted it out, but I plan on buying another ego 08 mid-season Axe pro for now though
