Yea, I would use a decent GPS and download the points to something like google earth or TOPO! to create some maps. I would be pretty pissed if I had to run a land nav course with an actual map and compass only to miss half my points because the bozo who made it got ****ty grids trying to set it up on his iphone.

If you're on planet earth with a view of the sky, chances are that you'll be able to take a GPS fix.. The AGPS function included in most cell phones only aids time to first fix, by telling the phone where to look for the satellites, versus it finding them on its own.

I've been in the middle of the ****ing ocean and the GPS in my phone was +/-6'.

Go to the armory and check out a gps. If you're in a unit that doesn't have a gps in their armory then you prob don't need to be doing land nav.

If you are on any base with a division school they have a land nav course already set us, contact them and they can give you the points. Or just ask someone in your unit/squadron/whatever the hell you do who may have been to the course.
