That looks so tasty.

its too damn cold do to anything right now. yea i could go for steelies but they are hugging the bottom, do not readily bite and you have to cover a ton of river to catch anything atm. yea **** that when it is 18* and the water is 34*

its not so much the cold as it is the lack of bite. all the water is low and its really slow fishing unless you head out to the rocky and it is still pretty slow there. im just holding off for a few weeks and hoping the water rises a little bit so its not hours of hiking up and down a river fishing freezing holes for 20 minutes and getting zero hits. ive been having too much fun fishing burbot anyway.

fly, pinning and spinning, mostly the second 2. no one is having much luck right now mainly because of the water levels. spawn sac and jig and maggot are working well right now but if you get 2 in a full day outing in one of the main steelhead rivers you are lucky atm.
live minnows were working the best in december and are complete crap right now. id have a much better chance hooking a pike with one in the river by my place than steeles. if i get time this weekend i might try a streamer flies and see how that goes.
i am going to try the chagrin and grand rivers in 2 weeks and see how i do there. the rocky is the best river but the levels have been awful this season.

Redfish is fine, its freshwater cousin is not. Its the kind of fish you give to the old *** asian dude sitting on a breakwall at the end of the day

went to the palm beach inlet today, and well... words can't describe how stupidly thick the fish were.
literally hundreds of jacks in the surf. they were following the mackerel, and the spinner sharks were following the jacks. not little guys either. the smallest jack we caught was just over 2'
i went through so many jigs from hooking into the larger ones and not being able to stop them. we didn't take our shark rods, but we'll be back tomorrow.
the spinner sharks were literally in ankle deep water along the beach chasing these fish. i have a video that i'm trying to upload, and if i can i'll post it.
otherwise here's a pic of the jacks. we kept 6 and started either giving the others away, or throwing them back.
edit: quick video to show the sharks in the surf. my facebook setting should let you guys see it. but let me know if you cant, obviously.

Holy balls. If you don't mind saving me a few, Ill be in the area in a couple weeks and would LOVE to bring a few back for bait. We just got a big freezer so we can start saving bait for our trips. I will pay you cash money for them. Haha. Right now my my buddies are expecting me to bring back a bunch of bonita but those are soooooo much bigger. Would be awesome on the 14/0.

That's crazy seeing those sharks chasing those fish around in the surf that shallow, especially that many. I have only seen a group of about 3 or 4 small sharks chasing fish in the shallows and that was once. Most of the sharks I have seen were alone.

Those spinners are crazy. Absolutely insane.
I'd go after them with a fly rod! That'd be a hell of a fight.
