I need a track bike. The though of binning my triple after less than a year of ownership is not very appealing. Especially during a rainy TD.

Yo for a track bike... Go for something fun.

Get a big twin or at least a 600 if you aren't broke as ****. Riding a 250 fast is fun and all, but they can't power wheelie out of a corner either

Just get a r6, parts are plentiful, they handle the best, and everyone and their mother knows how to set one up. You won't be disappointed mine is a blast fo sho.

r6 first choice, then cbr (more expensive usually), then gsxr, then zx6r

I was thinking hawk, gs500, etc. The closest track to me is stupid short. Fast group TD speeds rarely break 120 on the straight.

i guess it depends on what your goals are.

i propose sv650 (of course), cheap to run, more common than the others you mentioned.

Not as common as the R6, feels loosey goosey when ridden hard (the front forks are a big time draw back, I could feel them bend when braking very hard) Then if you out ride the front forks, the flimsy *** swing arm is next. The frame is good though...

R6 is more fun, and faster right out of the box compared to an SV, even a superbike SV. They generally crash better, the SV... not so well, it's just a cheaper made bike.

If you are looking for a cheap way to race, then ya, i'd pick the SV, buttt to just get on the track? Naa

I wouldn't ever buy a hawk, or gt500 at this point, unless you want a clapped out bike for some reason, neither is competitive in well... anything, and won't be nearly as fun in a trackday environment.

Fair points, but there are enough guys running in the mid-high 1:30s on SVs with stock front ends at VIR that chassis flex shouldn't even be a consideration for the average td rider. Most people will never get to that level.

The main benefit is the tires last twice as long, easily...unless, again, you are pretty damn fast.

The advantage of the R6 would be that if you bin it, there's almost a 50/50 chance that somebody pitted next to you will have a spare part.

I'm just looking to go around a track and have fun. Besides, NHMS is the shortest slowest track known to man. The back straight rarely sees speeds over 120 and as soon as you hit it your on the brakes again.

Yeah, but riding a hawk or a gt500 would absolutely blow compared to a modern bike, even a SV.

They are so old... New bikes are sooo so so so so much better.

I'd have an even harder time finding parts for a VF than a gs.

I was just throwing out some bikes, I'm not dead set on anything. I'd like to keep a low overhead so if I trash it I'm not heartbroken.

I just bought a house and my girlfriend has more student debt than I care to elaborate on. Gotta do this on the cheap.

Might as well get a 250 then, even the older ones handle better than my gs did. My gs was a good bike, but it was on pretty standard tires using 70s tech on a 1984 bike.

I had an 01 GS that handled like the titanic. I wouldn't pass up a 250 for the right price. It would just suck to constantly get passed and then not be able to pass in corners.

lrn 2 ride

Understandable, I'd actually would rather just track a bombproof thumper for ease of maintenance and simplicity.

Get a older r6... Like, 01-04

Stupid cheap, some of the best handling bikes ever produced for the public, and they are still fast.

What do you need midrange for on a track?
