I'm still trying to get used to holidays. I decided I kinda like it. Anyone here going to be affected by the possible sequestration?

I'm on a contract that's protected. It was recompeted last year and the FTE count on the legacy contracts was reduced from 900-1000FTE's down to 700 (500 on ours and 200 going to IDIQ contracts). So our customers have indicated we won't have to take another hit (by FTE's, hours or dollars) as we've already taken our hit. Several of our other programs are likely going to see net reductions but the trouble is, as contractors, we do the majority of the work for the government. While their people get furloughed, they can't really afford for us not to be there otherwise *nothing* would get done.
This whole sequestration mess is bad business/bad government. You don't perform a delicate, yet critical surgery with a chainsaw and a machete. You shouldn't do budget cuts in the same arbitrary manner. I'm all for leaner defense, but make it sensible.

Essentially the head of the government agency, the CO and COTR have all said that we're safe. Our contract is exempt from future cuts for the initial sequestration hit.

The sequester is an absolute disaster. They really need to come together and stop it from happening. This Congress weve had is awful.

Company says: We are getting new phones, do you want one?
ME: If I don't have to pay for it.
Company: No, its a write off for us, so free for you.
ME: Can I choose my phone?
Company: Yes you can.
Me: White Galaxy S3, its $100 on special from the company you want to use.
Company: Thats fine. Consider it done.

Yeah it is. What's frustrating is how many agencies are holding off on contract awards until after Sequestration to figure out a strategy to maximize their FTE support.

My company has been preparing for it, but we'll see. I'm involved in direct technical work, so as long as our contracts don't get shrunk I should be alright.
