Depends on whether he bought new or used. I can find just about all of these parts used to cut down on costs. But you really have to patrol around for good deals.

LP valve is the only "upgrade" worth anything for the 08Ego. The Zick2 and cure whatever, do nothing but lighten your wallet. If you cant shoot brittle paint w/ the stock bolt somethings wrong.

Sound signature can also be attributed to too "Low" a dwell as well...
Too low a dwell value will short the cycle time of the solenoid...leading to low velocity. People compensate for this lower velocity by raising the inline reg pressure...thus...more pressure to the ball...thus...louder and more recoil...
Making sure everything is balanced well...and a proper paint to barrel match up should help to some degree...but remember...it is a few years old...and things ain't what they used to be....

The stock dwell for a Ego 8 is 12.5. I've been running my 06 Dark at 11.5 for the colder weather with great results, no breaks consistent, and fairly quiet. My 06 Dark isn't exactly quiet, but its not ear shattering. I've found that on the 05/06 Egos that the newer bolts such as the Cure3+ are louder due to the rammer being more exposed when its in the forward firing position. A good paint to bore match will help with sound noticeably and the hush also lowers the sound a few decibels too.
Here are some pictures of a Cure1 and Cure3+ in the forward firing position in my 06 Dark, notice how the Cure1 covers almost all of the rammer slot versus the C3+.

This is true, but my 06 Dark is still holding up strong. I fixed the leak on my 06 Nexus and its shooting nicely now, but I still need to see it over a chrono to judge it accurately.
To the OP you could try to increase your dwell to 12.5, use a new name brand battery, and try to sweet spot your HPR and LPR regs. Be sure to do so over the chrono and in small increments. Here is a link to a tuning guide that should help.

What is the LP guide for? It's low pressure guide right?
Is the stick high pressure?

The guide is not the "stick" lol. It's simply for different operating pressures. It's a small
Black cylindrical valve behind the LPR that requires full disassembly to access. Set your dwell to stock or a few ms below to decrease a little sound signature. Test the dwell settings with a chrono though to ensure you aren't sacrificing consistency.

Mine is set at 9, which is stock on the OLED Virtue board. I'll set it at 12.5 which is stock on the stock board and see what happens

LP is for Low Pressure valve. Let you run the marker at a slightly lower operating pressure. Decreases the sound signature very slightly and shoots just a tad smoother. I would not expect any big changes though.

So it really isn't worth spending money on it

Like Bump_Pitch said it's personal preference. To me I think I've read more people who say it's benefits do not justify the cost. You're better off spending that money towards a smaller bore barrel. That will help you quiet the marker down the most. A TECHT Hush bolt will do more than the LP valve probably.
