Ruger LCP is the best 380 pocket pistol out there if you dont include the Kahr P380, which while it is *objectively* "better" its not worth the 520 dollar pricetag.
Id trust my life to an LCP everyday of the week. In fact I'd carry one but its just too small for my hands, so I carry a Glock 26 in my pocket in the summer/when Im going on very short trips like to the gas station or some ****. Other then that I carry a Glock 23. Rule of thumb is carry the biggest gun youre comfortable carrying, that you'll actually carry. Id rather have 10 rounds of 9mm then 6 rounds of .380, however Im a lot bigger then you and a Glock 26 may be way more comfortable for me to carry.
Im rambling. tl;dr LCP is good.

well i plan on dropping it into a JAE-100 stock and a scope, but for the most part i will be hunting with it and target shooting at a maximum range of about 600 meters just for fun.

You have a budget? I would invest in a good optic and a nice mount before you toss the rifle in a $600+ stock. SWFA SS scopes are an exceptional value. Their fixed 10x is good for your application and rather inexpensive. The glass and mounts are the last place you want to skimp out on.

Anyone have any expirence with a smith and Wesson sd40 ve? Price on them is good, reviews all seem good, especially for what they cost.

They have notoriously ****ty triggers, but aside from that are mostly decent pistols.

I had one for a while, but ended up selling it. I really couldn't stand the trigger. But, there may not be a better pocket gun out there....the LCP's sure do sell like hotcakes.
I want to try the LCR .357 mag if I every try another pocket/back up gun.
Alas, a photo of my new 500 home defense gun! Picked up some OO buck for those rascally intruders as well!

I'm thinking about the magpul forend for mine when they are in full-production. Also want an elzetta flashlight mount, and probably a surefire for HD duties. Maybe the mesa tactical stock adapter and another CTR stock

that surefire is baller $$$$$$$$$$$$.
I'm just not sure how the light would be thrown around when you are racking the thing.
I really want an Elzetta light to go with it.....but that's pretty much dreamland costs

From what I've seen the light is pretty sturdy in the housing.
