Kid says he plays D2
So my friend says he plays D2 and he is actually really good, hes not bull****ting but he says "D2". Could someone explain to me how that fits into the whole scheme of tournament paintball? He also talked about getting recruited by Houston Heat. I'm sure people throw **** like this around all the time, but this kids really good actually and does play for a team. I just wonder how much is true. I mean I know he's not some kid saying "I play pro paintball" that annoys the **** out of me, but I'm not up to date on how good division 2 really is. Like should his name be recognizable at this point?

You really don't have to be great to be a Division 2 team. Just must play a lot of tournaments, which means you will have more experience, which generally means you will be a pretty decent player, but not necessarily. And I'm pretty sure you have to be at LEAST Division 1 to even be considered for a pro team.

D2 is upper mid level tournament play. Not quite ready for pro, but way too good to be playing local events anymore.

Possible, although I believe Heat has a pretty solid roster at the moment.

Easy way to find out for sure what the deal is would be to ask him which team he plays for. If he plays PSP events, his team and his name would be listed in the APPA records.

Not likely. As an example, a D2 team from around me had worked their way up from local events, through D4, then D3, into D2. Nobody really knew their names outside of people who played against them in their divisions, and locally. They started getting noticed, and last year became a sister team to Aftershock, with some of their top players filling in the Aftershock roster. To become what passes for a "household name" in paintball, you've really got to stand out, and even many pro players aren't at that level.

At first I was calling bull**** on all this, and was thinking along the same lines, but I like to be fair and consider everything. Which is when I realized some of the guys already on Heat essentially made the jump straight from D2 to pro.
I'm not saying any of the story is true, but I'm not gonna say that its false either.
I'd take whatever your friend says with a grain of salt, but don't completely discount what he says.

*D2* Locally (in state) and D2 Nationally are two different beasts.

Yea no. I have more new gear/setups than everyone at my field and it does not automatically make me a better player.

Yeah hes probably lying to you and trying to sound cool. I remember when i first started out i thought any dude with a jersey was probably a pro. And i doubt Heat would be looking for any D2 players since they are the best team in paintball and have a solidified roster and there are plenty of pro and D1 players that they would consider before looking at people in lower divisions.

The way you say it sounds a bit to me like he's been bragging. I tend to have a problem believing people who brag about their actual skill level. How long have you known him?

If you don't have confidence in yourself how do you expect anyone to respect you?
