Ion OP Problem
Hello Nation,
I've had an Ion given to me by a family member so I decided to up it out (for ****s and giggles).... but now it's causing me the exact opposite. As far as a I can list it, my Ion Ups are:
-Shocktech SSC Body
-15* Sith Frame
-Dye Hyper 3 Regulator
-Torpedo ASA
-Warrior AC Breech
-Stock Firing Can
-Saw blade Trigger
-Deadly Wind 14" Barrel Set
-Virtue OLED board
-Stock Detents
-Tech T L7 Bolt V2
-Basic 48/3000 tank and a 90/4500 Carbon Tank
-And Can't really think of the rest at the top of my head
So anyways I do know ALOT about Ions but i guess not enough in my case.... My Ion was working decent (at least in a shooting condition) but I put the Sith Frame on it and everything kind of got ***ed up. I know it's not the frame, (which is in excellent condition) but my Ion doesnt seem to be operating under 200 OP. Before i was running it at 180ish with 28 dwell. Worked just fine. Now it has almost no velocity at 200..... I've tried tinkering around with the dwell (putting it back to stock, etc. etc.) and changing the OP of my Hyper 3 reg.
Is it because when you decrease dwell you increase OP? I'm getting confused because this is causing me a headache.

Also when the OP is under 200, i can hear an air leak because there is not enough pressure in the gun.

What i was thinking is that the o-rings could be a bit tight? Causing a higher OP...

May be the infamous problem of using a Virtue Redefined (OLED is redefined code I believe) and a TechT L7 bolt. For some reason that bolt and board combination have given people a lot of problems. I don't know much about it, something about an error in Virtue's software I believe, but hopefully LtTank can come with a little more knowledge

Yea i here alot about that problem. I might switch out bolts as a last resort, although i did just swap the o-rings from my stock bolt to the tech t one and it helped a bit.... i can shoot at 200 OP with 28 dwell now but i dont have a chrono to test its consistency.... And i would like to lower the OP then have it in the stock range (which is the reason why i have these up's and it's "suppose" to allow me to lower dwell)

before you go buy a new bolt put the stock donught and clip and banjo back on and try it with a stock body those shock techs are known to fail mine leaked like a fiend and then sealed and then suddenly decided to leak even worse after a week or so, so try using the stock donught/body shell and see what that does for you

Bolt swap may be your best bet. I've heard of phenomenal results with the Virtue Redefined and the Hollow Point bolt. I've never read of any problems with other bolts and Redefined other than the L7 bolt. I've only ever tuned Ions with Firebolts, but you should be able to get an L7 to at least 160 psi.

the oled isnt the redefined board the virtue redefined is the previous board with the led system the oled is a whole different board this isnt a board issue i will put my full faith in it is that body kit and it may need a reg rebuild

Almost everywhere I have read says the oled is the redefined code with the oled screen added on, hence being able to plug an oled into a redefined board. I'll reserve my judgement until someone with more knowledge comes around. And the issue with shocktech bodies leaking is machining burs in the back cap, which can be removed with light sanding, however the original post mentioned no body leaking

it is not a board issue the issue with the virtue and l7 was severe bolt stick nothing to do with operating pressure issues

I'm not trying to flame or argue, just saying the L7 and the Virtue redefined code have had their issues. Without a doubt, try your stock donut setup and see if the body is the issue, if not, look elsewhere

what qev are you running? and stupid question i know but a) where is the leak coming from when the op is below 200 and b) your not using a low pressure tank correct?

Leak is from the reg itself, from my knowledge it's because not enough air pressure is going through. But no leak when the OP is at around 200. I tried the stock body again no change, i also want to note that before i was able to have the OP at around 160, not sure why everything changed.. -__- (Ions make me wanna shoot myself)..... I'm running a stock QEV but i want to get a 360 one, should i?
And no not using a LP tank

True virtue OLED and Redefined are different boards.

so long of a thread that i lost sense of time !! lol !! just kidding guys.
Lets see.... OP was around 180sh and you changed the frame and it went up or down ?
Depending on the frame the volume of air could increase , if so, the OP should go down, but not that much.
Did you change anything in the fire chamber/cann ? meaning did you make the air volume smaller by any chance ? an insert of something ?
With the L7 bolt you should be able to run a dwell of 25ms (without a QEV) with no problem, however, every marker is different.
Do the following :
put back the stock frame , stock body, stock breech and can, stock front and rear banjos, just leave the L7 in (eyes or detents dont make a diff on this)
set dwell to 35ms
make sure your hyper 3 is well maintained and make sure its 4 turns in to start with (whatch the OP)
make sure you got a branded new battery in
get to a chrono and beging tunning it (lowering dwell, adjusting reg etc, until you are +/- 5 )
Again, original frame , original firing can and breech + L7 your OP should drop to 160-170 automatically due to the higher air volumen, then you have to make sure your reg is tuned correctly to work with that OP.
I ran my NT ion(hyper 3 reg, l7, 360 qev and stock cann and breech ) at 150psi with a dwell as low as 8ms and as high as 14 , yes running a badly programed for the L7 virtue redf board and an OLed as well
Its been a while for me on Ions cause I sold my NT almost a year ago, but hope that helps

Why so high of pressure wouldn't the l7 360 combo get you op way lower than 150?
