Removing a jb welded feed neck
Is there any possible way to remove a jb welded feed neck? I tried looking for a solution that may dissolve of soften it but no luck. I'm hoping there's some trick or secret but so far it's not looking too good.
Thanks in advance!

JB weld fails around 600*F, if I remember correctly. It'll definitely burn off with a propane blowtorch, which won't get hot enough to ruin aluminum. If you do try to burn it off, do it outside because it smells like you're trying to spread JB weld on a hobo's taint.

Would those type of heat ruin the anno job? It's got a fancy splash that I'd hate to ruin

Yes, over ~450*F will anneal the aluminum and modify the shear & tensile strength. Can't think of a solvent that's decently safe to handle that can dissolve epoxy.

Word on the street is that vinegar can soften jbweld, but I've never tried it myself.

I removed a jb-welded neck on a nice annoed Defiant. I clamped the neck in a padded vice (be sure to put a dowel in the neck to prevent it from ovaling) and twisted the body off. Soaked the body in acetone for a week and used a dental pick to remove the jb. Was not an easy job by any strectch, but well worth the effort.

There might be a good reason they jt welded it.
Mine is welded because the threads are stripped. Just want to let you know you might have to job weld a neck back on.

I'm 100% assuming the threads are stripped. I'd much rather have it re threaded or a coil pressed in and retread it for stock feed necks.
Thank you 63vdub that was just the answer I was looking for. It will be we'll worth the time I put in to it, it's a gorgeous free flow!

Totally worth it. Absolute worst case, you can do a better job with jb weld.
