newbie needs help!
hey guys im new too paintball and need a little help deciding whats best. i recently purchased some gear and with it came included an auto cocker. i did some research and its some sort of system x trilogy WGP auto cocker. the only thing that i can see wrong with it was that it needs the 3way and ram replaced.
i put it up for trades and got two good offers.
a good condition tippmann a5 with apex (one of the newer ones that have squishy paddles and a selector switch).
and a Blue ion with black heart board and a clamping feed neck and some sort of aftermarket trigger.
I've played woods ball a couple of times but i'd like to get into speed ball. is the ion a good speed ball marker that i won't have to upgrade any time soon? or should i stick with the a5? how do the guns function from close and long range?
PLEASE HELP!

Well if you're looking to get into speedball, the tippmann a-5 won't fly, but that's a good marker for woodsball. The ion is the perfect entry-level marker for a speedball player, I'd recommend picking that up if you can. Do your research though, see what you like, and do you have a budget for gun, hopper, tank, mask, etc?

An ion may be hard to maintain if this is your first gun. I mean if you really want it it's better than the A5 but if you get a decent offer you can get a G4 for cheap.

G4 are cheap. Had a few issues with bolt stick, but easily fixed. Do a search on here for threads if you go that route. Used Axes or Minis are good choices, too.

^ lmao have fun buying paint all day. Regardless the thing is a breeze to maintain. Bolt has no o rings. Breech I believe has one behind the feedneck the bolt cap has I believe two. Lube those and you should be good.

Lol like a g4 is easier? Proto would be the best route.
But get a good hopper first. A rental with a good hopper will be better that a good gun with a bad hopper.

The a5 was my first gun, the ion was my second. Both are great beginner platform. I was a novice when I got my ion and could maintain it no problem. I'd go for the ion, they're completely underrated.

Ions are a pain to maintain. The bolt is a lot harder to get to and all the banjo fittings and hoses is a nightmare for someone new I think at least. Then and again you probably know more than me.

If your gona play speedball stick with ion, till you get a better gun. If your gonna play woodsball stick with the a5. I can vouch for the a5 and it is easy to maintain and for the ion i dont know im guessing it would be a little tricky to maintain. The ion you can use for both speed & woods so its all really up to want you want to do.
