Is it safe to oil the o rings on a HPA tank?

I've googled and searched the forums and I'm seeing mixed messages. Some say use grease only, others say it's fine to use oil. Which is it?

I know don't let oil any where near the fill nipple, but is it ok to oil the o ring on the regulator's output?

Grease only. Why take the chance?

Oil will combust at high temperatures OR high pressure (which results in high temperature). The pressure coming out of your tank into the ASA is anywhere from 400 to 1100+ psi, depending on your tank setup.

Essentially yes.

An exploding tank can kill anyone close.

I would never oil the bottom half of my gun...(Anything to do with the air)

Although I doubt it would explode it could.

Grease only.

Great video on the details of this. Basically you can oil the o-rings on the portion that screws into your ASA w/o any risk (and probably should...), but putting oil on the fill nozzle could kill you

Thanks for the responses. I'll probably just stick with grease out of paranoia since there doesn't seem to be a concensus on the answer.

Grease only.
I'll give you the less techie fire science version:

When you put a petroleum product(oil) under pressure, you lower the tempreture at which it catches fire(flash point). this is how a diesel engine works
when filling a tank, if the pin on the regulator is depressed, the orings are under pressure, and therefore, the oil on the orings is under pressure, lowering their flashpoint. depending on the type of oil, and how fast the tank is filled, determines wether or not the oil ignites.

safest bet is to use Dow 33/hater sauce/monkey poo/ whatever else

Oil or Grease or Vaseline or SPIT works well on the ASA O Rings.

Grease only on the fill nipple O ring AFTER you take it out and disassemble it. Don't try to grease it on the tank. Goes IN the tank which is very bad.

None on the PIN valve O Ring. Factory repair or new replacement.

Oil is like diesel fuel. diesel fuel IS oil. Mix it with air and compress it and you have a diesel engine. In a paintball air tank, the detonation turns it into a bomb. Not a good idea. Remember how warm the tanks get during fill. Think Diesel Engine..... Air Fuel Compress Bang.

Silly question but why do you even need to grease the tank o ring ? I never have in 8 years and nothing went wrong for me .

Why do you need to lube this oring ?

If I don't put lube in my tank threads than its almost impossible to get it screwed on. People who have an on off asa don't know what I'm talking about.

I think the solution is to buy an on off asa rather than making yourself a bomb that you are holding 6 inches from

You can tell me anything you want doesn't mean I believe you . I want it in published writing of them or any company authorizing or suggesting one to abide by this practice .

Actually, I have seen pro- players and even the guys over at empire say to use lube on the threads to screw in a tank on the Mini

Yea, using lube on the threads asa is fine. But I wouldn't put it on a tank.

Probably because the minis asa is a POS? There is a difference between work arounds and idea engineering solutions

Its finneeee to put it on the O-rings on the tank. I do it about every 2 times I play. The air is regulated by the tank regulator by the time it has the chance to get to any oil. Use grease if you really want to, but you don't have to.
