Is there any real world gains from disabling the AIS on the R1? This is a debated topic for the triple.

common topic on all bikes.
real world: no, lots of work for no benefit.
If you're getting a dyno tune, it's a requirement.

Took the R6 around the block (I live out in the country) and god damn, after riding the FZ1, the way it sits you, man, it's like a missle and soooo much smaller its nuts. I never even realized, it's not even close to how the FZ is, and I'm glad I got the FZ. It's so so so much more comfy, and about the same speed, just a lot easier period for a street bike.
But one thing that sucks about getting a new bike is all the damn noises and stuff bikes make. I swear for the first few thousand miles I always think my bikes are broken, or going to blow up. ha
Idk about the popping... hell my R6 will shoot some nice sized flames out the back, and pops a **** ton.
The FZ pops too, but that's because it's carbed. And I don't mind it.

When I got my triumph I was paranoid about that. Most notably are two sounds. One is when you turn the ignition off, it sounds like a 90's fax machine which is the fuel pump/ exup valve closing.
The other one that bothered me was rocks hitting my fender. The fender is so close to the tire, any time I ride down a dirt or even crushed gravel road it sounds like marbles in a jar when the rocks bounce off the inside of the fender.

I can't speak to the power aspect of it but I can tell you I went from constant popping when RPM's drop to a perfectly clean exhaust sound as soon as the AIS was disabled. To me that was well worth the work and $5 of raw materials to plug it.

all the ais does is inject air into the exhaust so that unburnt fuel will burn in the pipe. it's just for emissions. if you have a stock setup then just leave it the way it is, aftermarket setup it doesn't matter either way (except for during tuning). no effect on performance.

Some crackling and popping is manageable but there is a time when too much gets highly annoying. The first thing I did on my bike was rip off the flapper valve and put a new exhaust on.

If you aren't using the stock exhaust, it sounds like you're backfiring. It reminds me of this

Any opinions on headlight mods? (HID, Angel/Demon eyes, etc)

not you specifically, no. just the topic of the gearing in general. Sounds really short.
you really had me scratching my head on that chain though, lol.

That's what I have on my bike. I use the SAE connector and it only takes a few second to get them on and off.

Yup I ordered then cause you recommended them.
I'm not some Nancy. I really only need headed grips like below 45degrees with race gloves so they paint the picture well.
And there is a 10 off any order over 50 on their site so just throw something that's 5 bucks I'm and get that and 5 dollars off.
