looking to get back into the game
So I havent played seriously since 1999 when i basically played every weekend.. and did a couple tournaments..
So i've been lurking and looking stuff up and reading about some of the guns..
now i'd like to say my budget for a everything is about 1000$ max gun, tank, pods / harness and maybe some upgrades..
my curious question is whats the difference between a Spoolie and Poppet marker??
Now I figure if i am going to play paintball I'll probably want to do some tournaments and such, so I'd like a good all around gun, something i can use for Rec wood games or tournaments without any issues...
So please shoot me plenty of ideas....
thanks dave

Poppits have a hammer that strikes a "poppit" and allows air to enter into the bolt projecting the paintball. Spool valves simply slide forward allowing the air to pass through the bolt projecting the paintball.
Spool valves are usually quieter and smoother then poppits but are less air efficient, poppits are very good on air but tend to be louder and have a little kick on them. The spool valvle guns also usually have a drop shot on the first shot

Marker - Axe. Retails at $450, used for $350 or less.
Hopper - Dye rotor. You can find them dirt cheap used for under $100.
Tank - Ninja is my favorite. You can find them used for $120 or less.
Podpack - Personal preference really. The best ones retail at $60 usually.
Mask - Personal preference. Go to your local field/stores and try some on. My favorite are the Empire E-flexes, which retail at $109.95 used (although I picked up one for $60 new never opened up out of the box).
Pants - Expensive. $180 or less brand new. I bought some like new Dye c6 pants for $20, and are amazing.
Cleats - Some nice paintball ones. Football or soccer cleats will do fine. Must be rubber spikes only though.
Spool valves use more air, but are smoother and quieter. Poppits are more air efficient, but are louder and have a little more kick on them.

so here is another curious Question... the paintball field I use to go to years back, has some used Invert Mini's that come with a tank and hopper for about 325$$ is that a decent deal? Or should I look on here for a complete package deal?

If you get a mini, your going to wish you had got the axe. Budget the extra $100 toward your marker. You'll thank me.

Get the axe instead of the mini.

A mini is a good gun but it's existence is made null and void by the Axe. There is no point in getting a mini since the Axe is so much better. Given your budget though, the mini is fine since it is what one can afford.

I think the axe is a high end marker with a mid end price tag. The mono is nice too and cheaper to max out.

longer/on-off asa/push button bolt access, bigger trigger frame.

Yes a used mini/axe will be well broken in. Also, not all poppets are loud, the Axe is about half the noise of an Ego, and both are poppets.

Size aside, the main difference that comes with that is upgrade compatibility and a few improvements over the mini model in terms of internals affecting efficiency, reliability etc.

Um, they use the same internals, minus the quick release feature of the Axe, so how is it more efficient ?

Didn't they also reduce the operating pressure? Also, wasn't there also some minor changes to the reg and solenoid? I seem to recall my mini when I still had it was way less efficient than my axe :-/
