Yes, maintenance records.
EDIT:
Are you buying from a dealer or a private seller?

Make sure a timing belt has performed at the correct time. Carfax and records. There are little things that you should keep an eye out for, like the condition of the flex pipe, the TRE's and control arms, glovebox latch, center console arm-rest latch, cup holder above the radio.
All in all they are good cars with a timeless body.
I highly suggest you by a VCDS (VAG-COM) if you purchase any audi or VW... it will save you money down the road when you get a check engine light. (dealers normally charge 90-120$ for a simple scan). You buy the software and cable for ~350$ and you have it for life. You can clear codes, get an entire readout of what is wrong, datalog, change things on the car like seatbelt chimes, door locks at a certain MPH, door chimes, Country designations for headlights and such, and remote windows.

Thinking about going to take a look at a 99 b5 a4 quatro with the 2.8 and 5 speed trans, has 130k miles for 3500. Anyone care to offer any insight on issues and such. And does that sound like a fair price to you guys?

control arms, timing belt, burning oil, clutch, and all of the usual. The 2.8 is alright, but I'd buy the 1.8T over it.

Yeah I'd prefer the 1.8t but I'm having trouble finding one that's not beat to hell or 200k miles in my price range. How are the 2.8s on power? I don't need a Racecar but would like to be able to get on the highway without being ran over.

They're gutless down low but more than fine for a dd. I'd much rather run a chipped 1.8t, but I'd take a nice 2.8 over a beat 1.8

Think I am going to try to get my old blizzaks put on my stock wheels tomorrow. They are one size too tall, but oh well. Think they still have some life in them. Not sure what to do with the old BMW winter wheels I have. Figure mob around on those for a while. Got my tax return last week, so just waiting on nicer weather to order a new summer set up.

stock was 245/40/18, the blizzaks were 255/45/18. They would not do it. Oh well.
Need to figure out what size tires to buy for summer. I think I am going to be buying 19x9.5 wheels, don't know what size tire to put on them. Thinking maybe a 265 if it will fit.
Also ordered the oem supercharged fender badges and a front plate delete. Vanity plate check was cashed last month, should be done in march or april. Add tint and hopefully an amber delete for the headlights and that should make for a nice improvement.
Oh yeah, and brake stuff. Trying to do stoptech rotors, upgraded pads, and stainless brake lines all the way around, but not sure all of that will be in the budget.

What's the point of a "Supercharged" badge when your car isn't supercharged? Badgeless or stock.
