Cleaned my solenoid last night and things just got weirder. Now when i air the gun up i get very sporadic velocity. Sometimes when i gas the gun up and fire it will be like 300, then it slowly drop to 190, 160, 120...etc Then i dry fire and it goes back up to mid 200's and drops. Other times i will gas it up and shoot and the chrono wont read the shot then it slowly jumps to mid 100's and stays there. The solenoid had some gunk in it and paint residue, i cleaned it all. Then i put a light coat of lube on the seals. The only place i put any substantial lube was on the piston. Maybe i over lubed it? I was very careful and lost no pieces and it is together correctly. I guess my next step is wiping the lube off of the piston and see what happens.

Thoughts?

replace the solenoid. x( sorry dude but it really sounds like your noid may be bad. buying another one is probably a great idea for a few reasons. one, you can test the gun as it sits but with the new noid and see if your situation improves. 2, if it isnt the noid that is your problem, well at least you will have a spare one, and this will also isolate the problem a little, showing that the noid isnt the problem. so yes, I suggest buying another noid. youve replaced all the o-rings in the bolt assembly, tried different regs, tried new batteries, checked solenoid insert depth, played around with your settings, and still the problem remains, but you have not yet tried a new noid. also, is the board in ur gun the stock board? if so, then zdspb says that voltage regulation could be the issue, although i see this as an unlikely but possible source to your problem. you said you were going to get a virtue board. have you?

i have a 7th element board in the gun currently. I just got the virtue board in the mail yesterday, i haven't had a chance to put it in yet.

If i have a humphery solenoid do i have to buy another humphery noid? Or can i get a parker? Is one better than the other?

parkers cycle faster, humphreys can handle higher pressures. humphreys have removable boards, parkers have soldered on boards. personal preference, so its up to you. Id go with the parker since your trying to run an eigen bolt, because your not trying to run a high operating pressure, plus it can cycle faster. you also really shouldn't have any reason to have to remove the upper board unless you break a power button or something. realistically, neither is better than the other. refer to zdspb on solenoids, and you will see what I wrote here and a little bit more. get that virtue board in and see what happens.

that's true...i still may clean the lube off of the piston and see what happens. this inconsistency didnt happen until i lubricated everything. I will also throw in the virtue board. thanks for the help.

cleaned the lube off and there was no difference. as i was taking the solenoid pilot away from the pilot housing one of the pins was stuck to the pilot. Their are 4 holes in the housing, the left pin stayed in place and i put the right pin directly on the other side of it like this .. now i remember 2 more pin holes located near those two. was the right pin supposed to go in a different hole? i cant find anything online involving the pins on a shocker Humphrey solenoid, only one for a timmy. the timmy ones has the pins in diagonal to each other. ill post a couple of pix i found as reference.

Right one goes in the mirror of the left one.

Those pins are pushed by the core (metal piece with the spring on it) to open a seal on the other side of the housing. That releases the air from behind the pilot and allows the noid spool to switch back.

Make an eBay account and bid on the one I gave you a link to a few posts up from here. There are currently 2 listed, and you can probably find one from somebody here. Interesting that your NXT had a Humphrey in it though. I thought SP quit using Humphreys in 06, and the NXT's are an 07 model shocker. Are you the first owner? Just my curiosity, but yea looks like ur noid is the problem.

I'm already watching the 2 Parker noids on eBay. Hoping to get one on the cheap. And no I'm not the first owner. I just got this gun from fishballer, the owner of shocker repair. It think the noid was bad when he sold it to me but it was hard to tell because it had a stock he bolt that normally has fsdo. When I first got the gun it had really bad fsdo but I didn't think anything of it, thought it was normal without a sprung bolt.

UPDATE:

I just put in my new Parker solenoid and I am having the same issues with the lurker bolt, my velocity is all over the place. Sometimes the ball wont leave the breach, other will be at 280 and anywhere in between. I put in a stock HE bolt and fired 20 shots, all were between 250-260. So it is an issue with the lurker bolt. So this has turned into more than fsdo...now its being wildly inconsistent like it was right before i replaced my solenoid. I guess i was hasty to blame my solenoid.

Ideas? Its lubed lightly with dow 33. Ive replaced multiple orings withe ones from my NXT rebuild kits.

Out of these, what can you rule out as not being part of the problem?

Black sludge
Tight-fitting orings
Spring binding
Misaligned solenoid inserts
Weak battery
Bad regulator
Bad tank regulator
...
any more that someone can add

Black sludge- No
Tight-fitting orings- Maybe to lose?
Spring binding- No
Misaligned solenoid inserts- They are installed based on ZDSPB instructions.
Weak battery- New duracel procell.
Bad regulator- Tried 5 regulators.
Bad tank regulator- Tired 3 tanks.

Since my stock bolt was working i took the sail oring off of it and put it on the lurker bolt. I notice higher peak velocity but still very bad inconsistency. Here is a video so you gust can see.

I also just tried a couple different sized sail orings and new guide orings with no changes. I then tried my hyper 2 reg on it again and I had the same inconsistencies.

Just curious but was the sail o-ring you had trouble with too tight or too loose?

To be honest i cant tell. When i pull the bolt through the bolt sleeve i can defiantly feel drag, but im not sure how its supposed to feel. I did put a slightly fatter oring on the sail and the thing would hardly cycle. With my current oring it works 90% of the time but it still does have what seems like a loss of pressure to cause inconsistency sometimes. Im hoping i just need to break in the bolt and the sail oring.
