The whole reason d6 has medals only is to attract this beginner teams and to almost force d4/good d5 teams to play in the d4/d5 division. No good team will play in d6 if the prize is only a medal. They will go for d4/d5 where they have the opportunity to win axes. Maybe for d6 they should offer just like a cheap jersey or something low cost ontop of the medals but the whole purpose is to keep sandbaggers out and have beginner teams enter the event with confidence that the better teams will compete for a prize in the higher division. It all makes sense IMHO. Plus the d6 division is pretty cheap if I remember correctly.
