Given what they're showing us, the spool moves back with the pressure from the volume chamber. It's not independent like say a shocker or ego. But a spring would close the valve independent of the volume chamber pressure. So yes. But they're not showing a spring. It could be done with a mech spring or a pneumatic spring.

Or opposing magnets, they would give you your repelling force to initially seal the valve at the end of the cycle as well as allow you to track the position of the ram with the HES. Though that might be getting a little too cute with the speculation

J4 Paintball works for a Paintball manufacturer
You guys basically have it. Props!

There is a few details you missed, and quite a few changes to the final design, But you guys can start betting on who got it all right, and what is there in the final. Because the operation pics will be out before PBE.

Again, good work. See, they thought this would be all what gun had sex with what other gun.

Possibly, if they manage to avoid Lenz's law.

I have to give nothing but props to PBJosh and his J4 company. Sounds to me like a lot of smart thinking, and great concepts and ideas. really looking forward to seeing more.

I was also looking online and found the concepts that were involved in his marker/drivetrain. Pretty trick stuff too. Good luck guys!

I guess you're correct.

It is pretty easy to maintain a spoolie. So if you really need that aesthetic the quick to remove bolt isn't much of an innovation. Not to mention how ubiquitous it is on smooth shooting poppet guns. I guess it's as innovative the clamping feed neck on a spoolie after it was already on poppets.

We don't know how efficient it is. Consider that many spoolies advertise the same ~1600 shots. Obviously real world, out of the box, results never quite meet expectations. Although the FEP Quest and Matrix got around that when TechTMike tested them.

Ya, not really innovative, but hopefully his next one will be?

The definition of aesthetic is something which is beautiful and/or attractive to the senses. This includes sound and touch. So ya, 'smoothness' is an aesthetic feature. It is not, nor has any bearing on, a quantifiable performance metric... like accuracy.

EDIT: I wish he would give us a price range. If its $1500 then I will be all the more let down than if he told me from the beginning.

Though, I highly doubt the gun will be under $1k. I would love to see new companies put out mid-range guns.

I didn't consider the dynamics of a magnet traveling through an aluminum tube. Gisgo09 did. UMAD I thought it was a good observation on his part?

A quick to remove bolt is a feature, not an aesthetic. People find it useful, not beautiful.

I'm curious what you would consider an innovative feature. Having the ability to track the position of the firing cycle is something that hasn't been seen in a decade. That seems fairly innovative to me.

Well the first 16 pages are informative and interesting......as opposed to the vanquish thread (or the thread i wish would vanquish) with zero useful information about the marker and hundreds of pages. Kudos to J4 on a proper tease and man'ing your topic. I'm interested to see more pics and the shooting videos. There are some very solid theories on how this marker functions from pbn users so thanks for getting me through work entertained

The only thing in the vanquish thread was a duct tape marker. I don't know what you wanted that thread to come to, but with empire keeping tight lipped and a marker the OP said might be a new gun there wasn't anywhere to really go from there.

Also, anyone who says a spool is just as easy to clean as a poppet has either never owned both or needs to have their head checked.

And a removable bolt isn't an aesthetic feature, it is a function feature. Being able to remove the bolt and slide the squeegee through when a ball breaks is the spool's Achilles' heel.

It is better to have and not need than to need and not have.

An enclosed bolt offers no advantage to an exposed bolt.

In this case that's not entirely true. The rear seal on the ram is exposed, although not often as long as the bolt is long enough to keep the bolt pin slot covered during the entire firing cycle.

However it doesn't appear to be long enough to do that.

Paintball News Rules
  1. No Upping threads. If you have something to say, please do, but don't post in the thread just to take it to the top of the forum.
  2. Do not post "1st post", "1st", "First post" or anything similar (or with any other number) at any point in a thread, even if you post a comment too. It is really annoying and it will result in a ban.
  3. If you don't like something, say why instead of just calling it ugly, lame, gay or any other name. If it is old, simply post a link or report the post with a link to the older News thread.
  4. Please don't post links for places to buy items. That encourages stores, sponsored players and other people to do it and spam the site.
