Co2 or HPA for my SL68ll
Is Co2 alright to use on a SL68 or does HPA still apply as a better air source to use?

HPA is, and will always be better than co2. It's more consistent in every way.

Like the Phantom, the SL68 is a Nelson-based system, so it's designed to run on CO2. In fact, back in its heyday it wasn't uncommon for players to run it on straight siphoned liquid CO2 for better winter performance.
HPA will work fine also, though some of the older SL68 IIs I've worked on needed to be given stronger mainsprings, or have the stock ones shimmed, to get their velocities high enough with HPA.

So is it better to use Co2 with it?

I'd say use whatever is more convenient for you.
Nelson guns tend to be just about the least-picky guns out there when it comes to gas choice.
I haven't heard of any of the current-generation SL68 IIs needing new springs to run HPA.

Right now I use HPA, but it is a steely tank. So to loose wait on it I wanted to use a small C02 bottle instead of buying a 50 dollar 13/3000 tank.

Sounds like a plan, especially if you can track down one of the old-style aluminum 7oz tanks.
These are very light, make a good stock, and are exempt from hydro.

How many shots would I get off a 12oz Co2 bottle?

Our field doesn't allow CO2, and my old SL68 shoots 240-250 fps on a 13ci air tank. I haven't tried a stronger spring yet, but I need to bring up the fps. I assume spring pressure is the only velocity adjustment on the old school SL68's?

I've heard of fields that don't offer CO2, but I've never heard of one that doesn't allow CO2.
And yes, if your SL-68 1 doesn't have the bolt choke, the only way to change velocity is by altering the springs.
First off, are you getting rollouts? If so, you're probably also getting some partial rollouts. Fixing those will be the first step to getting your gun shooting at the proper velocity.
I had a bunch of older SL-68 IIs that wouldn't shoot up to velocity, even with the choke all the way out, and had a hard time sourcing springs of the proper size, so I made a bunch of different shims by cutting small lengths off an 11/32 brass tube I bought at the hardware store. These were just the right size because they have to be able to to fit around the power tube, between the hammer and bolt, and still have the spring perch on it without slipping off.

This man has it right... These markers were made to run on CO2, if you use HPA and want to get higher velocity, you will have to change out main spring or cut it down.

I made a few spacers out of brass tubing like you suggested, (for my SL68) but haven't had any chrono time. This marker is the Poster Child for rollouts, so I will be sending a spare barrel out to be freak bored. I tried a hammer spring out of a tracer or something, but the pump is so much harder to move, I'd rather have the low velocity.
Also, the field owner blamed his insurance for the no co2 policy, but more likely he needs to pay for his expensive compressor.

I prefer HPA, it's way more consistent and for me it's been cheaper in the long run ymmv though

I never thought about raising the reg output pressure. That sounds like a good idea.

It is a nelson based gun which is suppose to run on Co2. I use my nelson based CCI Phantom with HPA and it has zero problems. The 3.5oz Co2 tanks are very handy though for Vertical ASA's.
