It doesn't work like that. Your watermark is useless when using the service since you already agreed to the terms and conditions.

1. It's a free service, they've got to pay the bills somehow.

2. I don't post much professional work on Instagram, it's mostly **** I've taken with my phone and processed through Snapseed.

3. If somebody wants to bag a 612px x 612px photo from my Instagram, I could give two ****s, it's not like they're raiding my work drive for my raw files. Even the stuff I put on Facebook at 1280px on the long edge gets gutted to 72ppi.

So while I get the whole slippery slope and rights management stuff, I keep the best of my work to paid services or my own hosting and not worry about Instagram's terms of service.

Exactly I'm not exactly posting professional photos anyways and I'm not going to go out of my way to whip out my dslr to take a picture of a pancake with the mona lisa on it and go to a professional hosting service when I can just snap it with my iPhone and post it somewhere my friends can view it. I don't use photography as a form of income so i couldn't care less if they tried to steal my work.

Since idgaf about any social network's terms of service that are purely put in place to cover their *** in the event that someone accuses them of something (facebook used to (or still does?) have a ToS that claimed copyright ownership on all photos uploaded and rights to promotional use, I have yet to see facebook A) do any sort of advertising at all, really, and B) use anyone's photo for anything.) On top of that, it contradicts new Canadian legislation granting the photographer total copyright as soon as the button is pressed unless otherwise stated in a written and signed contract.)
