Should I do d6 or d5...

Hey guys so I am just getting back into the sport after about 8 years of not playing. When I was younger I played in my local fields three man tournament, and I also played one CFOA in the beginner bracket. Now I was 12-13 years old back then. Im 20 now and wanting to get back into playing. I have some friends that are interested in doing a 3man cfoa event at our local field. I read that D6 is for beginners and people with no tournament experience. Although I have had some experience it has been so long ago that I dont feel like it really matters, but what do you guys think?

They're both weak divisions. If you have played paintball before you can play D5. Any lower than that and you're playing a birthday outing.

Not sure I'd go that far, but it's close. I think it depends on the area you're living in.

I know that last year, where I am(Metro Atlanta), there were a lot of guys coming back in to the sport who were ranked D5, but had real experience back in the 05-07 years. As a result, D5 had a lot of players/teams who were actually pretty good.

D6 is definitely more of a "My first tournament" type of format.

OP, if you've played a few events, even in the past, you could probably fit right in with D5. My question would be more about your team mates, if they've never played an event before, D6 would be a good way to get their feet wet before a jump up into D5.

Ok thanks guys. D5 will probably be the one we go with then. One of my teamates actually was on my 3 man team from before, we are the same age and we started and stopped playing right around the same time. My other teamate has been playing for a long time, but only played very little in the tournament setting.

Exactly. That's why I said if you have experience you can play D5 and if you've never played a tournament you can play D6.

D6 might be a solid fit if you guys are shooting brass eagle talons....

Maybe d5 if you got some spyder amgs though...

Iv seen plenty of d4 teams that where complete and total garbage.

If you are not ranked and D6 is available play it, that is where you belong.
Worst case is you win and then move up to d5 next time.

Or just play D4. Local D5 is pointless except as an intro to the tournament routine. This newfangled "D6" thing is a joke. You get better by playing better teams, not by playing three smucks with 98s and shake-n-shoot hoppers.

Is D6 actually as "shake and shoot hoppers" as everyone is making it out to be? im about to play a D6 CFPS tourney in April and if its like that i might just do D5

D6 in my area is actually very legit, lots of guys coming out with pretty decent setups. D6 is basically, for someone's first tourney then they move on. It's mostly Weekend Warrior skill wise, I have no idea about d5, because i rarely hear about it, I'd imagine it'd be mostly any of the d6 'vets' and some noobies. d4 is actually, a bit more competitive then you'd think, then you get into d3/2/1 of course.

D5 up here is mostly a place to get new teams some seasoning, or give returning vets a good opportunity to get back in shape.

Personally, I liked D5, it was definitely soft at the bottom, but the good teams were still pretty good, and you have a legit chance to contend at tournaments rather than spending an entire season getting wrecked in D4. It's hard enough to keep a team together without asking them to pay for a whole season worth of getting beaten up at events, D5 gives those up and coming teams a chance to go out, have some success, and keep everyone hungry for more.

I would consider wasted time as "hurtful". If your not willing to take a challenge I dont know why you would be playing at all. Id rather loose and learn, than win and be getting no where.

jesus christ. d6 is an actual division? Im not against beginner divisions but making all these lower divisions is giving more room for teams to stay put and beat up on beginner teams. ive seen it happen a lot in d5 where teams will just stay put in the division to ream the noobies. they need to stop making lower divisions.

D6 is the beginner division, meaning you have less than 50 APPA points haha.
