Step 1: location, location, location. Be where the ducks/geese want to be
Step 2: concealment. Hide your *** well. You think deer hunting is hard? When you have 15-20 geese coming in, wings locked, feet down you got 30-40 eyes looking for you instead of just a deer or 2. The birds have a view from above so be hidden very well
Step 3: dont skimp on decoys. Good brands will last you a long time. Like bigfoot, GHG, final approach, zink. You get what you pay for. Im not saying spend $300 on 6 decoys but you get what you pay for
Step 4: calling must be good. If you sound like a dying animal, the birds will just fly by not wvwn giving a look. There are videos on youtube that show tons of calling tips. Learn from them. Calls like Zink, Echo, Foiles are the best calls on the market
Step 5: shooting. If your going to hunt from a layout blind, practice shooting clays sitting on your ***. Trust me. Its a huge help
A farmers friend is always on the birds around my neck of the woods. Working on the farm that i hunt has led me to a dozen or so more farms that i can hunt and i kill lots of birds every year

My most successful hunts were by myself. Then i only have to worry about hiding me. When we go with 8 guys we have to worry about if one guy moved or if one guy isnt hidden well enough. When we do it right, everyone is hidden well and we learned a great trick on how to hide 8 guys and its worked wonders this year
Our best hunt was the 2nd last day of the season with 38 dead birds. One shy of the 13 man limit we had that day

Thinking about picking up a Savage Axis 22-250 for yotes. There's a field I'm hunting that's about 150 yards and with a bigger round I could wack em. My little 17hmr aint cutting it anymore
Maybe a TC Venture if I could ping a good price on one with a scope.

That would be awesome. I'm no where near them though.
I really want to get a wolf mount. That's like the coolest animal to have mounted, ever.
And a guided wolf hunt is only like 2k

What's your price range for the gun/scope?
I'm picking up my 6.8 upper Tuesday. I'm very happy considering that it only took about 2-3 weeks with all of the panic going on. It's not at a high cost either. Same cost as it would have been before. I just hope my scope arrives in the mail this week.

Wild cat you say? I've decided to get it mounted just because of the size.

I've been out of action the past week or two though. Blurriness in my dominant eye has kept me sidelined. Hoping I can get back out there next weekend.

Ehh, I really don't want to spend over $300. I can get the Axis for $310. The maximum I'd want to spend is $400 but I'd have to wait till the middle of the month to buy a scope. I might wait till then anyway, to be completely honest.
I don't have an AR. I had the cash to buy one and planned on it. Then Sandy Hook happened and I've abandoned the idea for the next 10 months, at least. I'm going to try and put the money towards a Tacoma but I just opened a new credit card so IDK if they'll let me have a truck. Lord knows I need one.
Nice kitty, btw

Lynx? That's a bobcat.
Try looking into the Stevens 200. You can probably find a new one less than 300 and it's basically the same as the Savage 111/110. I think it would be better than the Axis.
You should be able to find an AR for a decent price in a few months. Once everyone realizes nothing will happen(I highly doubt an AWB ban will pass, maybe a magazine ban but not an AWB) then all of the people who "stocked up" will begin to realize they don't need what they have and will begin to sell. Manufacturers will begin to catch up as well.
Thanks on cat. It was pretty big. Probably 30ish pounds give or take a bit.
