Let the sponsors work out the terminology or create a lower level "semi-pro" sponsorship program if they have to. That's all on them. If I'm a sponsor, I'm paying based on performance and marketability anyway, not just a division name.
My 5 step plan, repeated each year....
-Create a semi-pro division and open it to all that's willing to pay.
-Only allow 10 total teams in the pro-division.
-Top 8 from pro the previous year get to stay pro, all the rest get dropped to semi-pro.
-Top 4 from D1 get promoted to semi-pro, top 2 from semi-pro get promoted to pro.
-Only rank a player as pro if they finish top 8 twice in the season.
