DSO is hit or miss with me. Their EPs are all much better than their full albums. Actually I hate all their albums.

Lolwut
I think that may be the single most elitist thing I've ever heard, tech death: pop with sweeping and ****.

Good. I don't keep a well stocked memory of all the bull**** that comes my way.
The basic formula is 4-5 actual musical ideas arranged like pop songs would be with jazz breaks noodling etc interspersed between the riffs.
If you don't see that you are an idiot.
Good "complex/technical" death metal off the top of my head:
Atheist, Demilich, Gorguts, Mitochondrion, time ghoul,
The irony is that most death metal takes an extraordinary amount of ability to play. Early morbid angel was very intricate and precise but never felt the need to wear it on their shoulders.
I could forgive all of this, if the music wasn't so ****ing banal. With all that talent they can't even hold a candle to something as simple and basic as beherit. Less deeds of flesh(who are hit or miss) and more slayer. ****.

I already told you I don't remember the names to all this crap. I have the general impression from what I've heard and that is that.

Well as long as Athiest and Gorguts are ok... it sounded like a pretty big sweeping generalization.

Gorguts in particular used their "techy" stuff as a means to an end. Instead of just writing something that would go good on an instructional video with gore lyrics or what have you. I heard a sample of a new song. I think they lost touch.
