i was going to mq a bunch of this tread.. but ill just post this.. paintball fields need you to buy their paint to say open. they also do it sometimes for reason of insurance. my field lets you bring your own paint if it is approved and you pay a higher entry fee. most fields will give you a discount if you buy a season pass or something like that.. put it this way fresh paint that will break or ****ty walmart paint that can hurt people

I can't believe that is the price that fields charge!!! Like everybody else says though that is how most fields make a profit, but not usually that big of a profit... Yikes!

They musts been old and crappy, even plywood stops a monesterball at 300fps
And he mentioned dicks, which doesn't sell monster. They actually had an rps scenario paint for 39.99 that shot pretty straight and broke decent. About as good as heat or midnight (our original field paints)

The field needs to make money and it can be a safety issue.

If it was only about money they would just up the entrance fees. Of course, money is the ultimate goal. If they control what people are shooting at each other they will have less issues and potential lawsuits to deal with not to mention less issues with their rental guns shooting old paint or frozen balls.
I like the idea of paying more to weed out the riff raff. Good insight.

Yea I hate how the field makes you use their paint, it's over priced ($59.99) and its horrible! At my pro shop I can get a case of evil for only $50.00!

I've been to a couple fields that did let you bring your own paint or you could buy their paint but they all had to stop letting people bring their own paint because of douchebags that would freeze their paintballs or sneak monsterballs (just as bad, if not worse than frozen paintballs) on to the field.

stop scaring people with your false information... you CANNOT FREEZE PAINTBALLS- cold makes paintballs fragile and break easier... do not listen to this man.... there is a reason winter grade paint is made-and that is because summer grade paint will not make it past your barrel in the cold winter months
secondly monster balls should not even be made anymore-there is a reason why they are banned from every paintball park in the world (I invite you to run a bag over with a stream roller, they will break..... the roller) so on that you c can listen lol..
but yes its for money /thievery or in the case of a paintball park in the city ( Hollywood sports paintball) they actually have to give a cut to the city...

I just got back into paintball, I used to play strictly woodsball on a homemade field and it kinda stinks that most places charge about $100/case, do most fields charge less for a day play if you have your own gear?

I think it also has to do with quality. They don't want someone bringing frozen paintballs or old paintballs to the field. As others have said, their income comes from selling paint so they need it to stay in business.

Many fields buy state property and have to get biodegradable paint so it doesn't ruin the land.
