You cannot run a gun without a poppit spring, I really hope you are not going to attempt that.

How is the valve going to be closed without a spring? Just from the air coming in from the HPR?

I don't think that's going to work or else why would they have a poppit spring to begin with?

lurkerpb told me that I could use it without until getting a spring from him, it may initially leak when aired on, but once shot it would seal. He said he tips the barrel upward when airing it on.

And why not?

I've done with it gen 2-3's and gen 5's..

200psi on a ~1/4" surface is 50 pounds of force pushing on that poppet. It takes no where near that to close that popery by hand.

With out the spring the valve might float a little if it gets pushed out at a slight angle. The spring just helps keep the poppet inline and insure its going to return correctly all the time.

Interesting. Except wouldn't you have a chance of the poppit ending up misaligned if you ever tilted or shook the gun without it being aired up? I can't remember offhand how much space there is between the valve and the base of the LPR in a Gen 3 but it seems like you might end up with the poppit out of the valve if that distance is long enough.

its possible but the seal/tight fit of the poppet oring has on the inside of the ram sleeve prevents the poppet from just falling out...when not aired up. obvoliously its subjelct to a little movement especially of he ram slides forward and pushes it but it wknt ever come completely out...may just get cocked a little bit..kinda similar to the gen 4 valve float problems when the poppet sticks open.

Right so wouldn't it make more sense to use the poppit spring and not have to worry about that?

absolutely...but if you have en eigen ram and cant get your velocity up then no spring and good velocity is better then the wrong spring with no velocity......

He also said he is going to use no spring until he gets a spring from Lurker, so that probably means it's just a quick fix until he can get a spring. It sounds like running without a spring is just something that will work in a pinch and using the spring is the correct and ideal way to go.

No spring is potentially best.

I include a spring that is barely there because it prevents the occasional problems no spring leads to

with the pictures provided of the stock ram, there is no "bumper" on the back of it, is that a problem, or can I put it back in the alias with the stock spring? The alias is now heavily leaking (new thread about it), and I just want to put the stock stuff back in it, get it running, and sell it before something else breaks!
