I heard good things about Contours. And based off the reviews from others, i picked up a ContourRoam recently. Haven't used it yet, though - bought one at what i thought was a really good price but turned out to be a Watersports kit version, so didn't have all the mounting hardware like the standard kit.

it seems to me the r7 video is about the same, as well as the contour. but the r7 fits anywhere is very light and small. so how does it compare?

Contour and midland xtc300 are great, they have the large slide button that guarantees they are on or off. The video quality is awesome too, without the excessive fisheye that other action cams usually have. The xtc 300 films in 1080p at 30 frames a second or 720p at 60 frames a second, both of which are good for catching paint in midair.
Also check out the jvc adixxion. It has some awesome features like live wifi streaming and smartphone/tablet connection, but from what I read it doesn't have a large number of mounts.

go pro 2 & 3will give you a MUCH nicer shot. The only plus to the other cameras is their shape. Contors spinning sensor is cool too. But go pro wins, no questions.

Contours are nice, because as wafflecakee said, the lens that turns. Replays are nice because of their size. Both are easy to use, and both give you a great picture.
A new camera is the Sony Action camera. There are two models, one is $200, the other is $270 or so. Both are the same but for one thing, that being that the more expensive one has wi-fi capabilities, so you can use your iTouch, iPhone, or Android device to see what it is looking at, turn it on and off, and wirelessly transfer your images from the camera to the other device.
One of the very cool things about the Sony is that it films in 720p at 30, 60, or 120 frames per second. So if you want that really cool slow motion footage, then 120 is going to be better than 60.
